{{ OPEN THREAD }}
And all the children gasped.
Ah how sweet it was. How sweet freedom was. Indigo smirked as she threaded her way casually through the neatly kept backyards of the humans, remembering her own days as a pet. The kitten days - how reminiscent. She let out a tiny laugh, startling a nearby chickadee into flight. That was fine by her, she wasn’t here for hunting. But why was she here? Impulse, one might say. Intuition. A yearning to re-visit her ‘old home’ - or at least other houses that were, in her mind, near identical. The location didn’t matter. It was a small cozy neighbourhood like the one she had grown up in. She wasn’t here to look for old characters from her past. She was here to remember what it had been like to be a pet. To, perhaps, compare to her newfound life as a stray. In as few words as possible, simply put, she was here to gloat.
All those little kitties with their faces pressed up against the windows. Always on the inside - always looking out. Pssh. Indigo dismissed their pathetic wants as trivial. As if they could do anything once they were out. As if! They were spoiled little things, not a chance they’d survive. She knew half of them wouldn’t even take the chance to be a stray if it was served up in front of them on a silver platter. They took comfort in the knowledge of having food at the ready every night and were willing to hold on tight to that comfort with every ounce of strength - to fully cast away all possibility of freedom in hanging on so tight. My, wasn’t Indigo in a philosophical mood.
She was different, of course. She had known from birth that she was destined for greater things than a bowl of kitty kibble and a soft bed at night. Freedom. The wild. The words still gave a chill even after being on the streets for three months now. A little rush of adrenaline. But adrenaline was Indigo’s drug of choice and perhaps that was why she enjoyed using - even in her thoughts - those words so much. For the little rush of power that they brought within her. Yes, she was not meant to rot away in a house full of humans and captivity. She was better than that.
And, of course, she was better than those spoiled little cats with their collars and bells - god forbid they killed an ickle little birdie - and their saucers of milk. She spat in contempt before clearing the five steps onto a deck in a fluid movement. Of course she was better than them. She smirked, leaping up onto the rail. Heights - there was another thing she loved. The thrill of glancing down and knowing one wrong step - something so little, so innocent - could send you plummeting.
Then again, she was only five or so feet up. But, in general, it was a solid theory - a solid rationalization. She grinned, her tail up straight for balance, wavering slightly in the wind. Five feet or so. That was nothing. She was a cat. Ask anyone to reel off an old proverb, a saying, about cats and the first to come to mind is always ‘Cats always land on their feet.’ So she leapt into the branches of the maple tree close by, climbing higher until it was more like ten feet. Much better. She let out a harsh laugh, letting it echo slightly across the open the sky. And, then, with nothing else to do, she leapt out into open space. Falling.
And we covered our own eyes.

Rose followed Indigo quietly, absorbing her surroundings. The town looked as amazing as she had dreamed. Her curiousity was pulling at her, wanting to go everwhere. She wanted to experience everything, of course she couldn't. After all, curiousity killed the cat. At least that's what Rose had been told. She didn't actually believe it, well very much. It was enough of a warning to freak her out. She started around, wary of humans, or other mean cats. She felt safe there behind Indigo, like she had someone to protect her. I do. For the first time, there was someone there on Rose's side, and they weren't going to leave her. "This place is great isn't it Indigo?"

Reap the shame.
Indigo glanced over her shoulder, spying Rose close behind, taking in the "landscapes" - if you could call them that - all around them. She grinned, her tail curling around her back paws in pleasure and oncoming delight. She nodded as Rose caught up. "Yeah. It's pretty cool." She paused. "But I wouldn't want to still live here - like in the houses or anything." That was for sure. Indigo had craved freedom her whole life - even as a kit who couldn't possibly have completely comprehended the idea. Now that she had finally achieved it - finally tasted it - there was no way she was going back. No way.
She turned back to Rose. "Soo... any ideas how best we can work our mischief?"

Rose nodded in deep agreement. "I'm with you there. Living with the humans, like as their pets was awful It wasn't any fun." Rose looked around, searching for potential fun spots. She spotted a dog tied up outside his house. Could be easy fun. She noticed a human moving aronud inside. Dangerous though, but I'm sure Indigo won't mind to much Rose trotted up along side Indigo and nodded towards the dog. "We could tease him. I mean, the owner is home but we could have a few minutes of fun before we have to run." She grinned and danced slightly, excited at the prospect of the little game.

Let the hot tears run
[/right] Indigo pulled a face in total agreement. "I hear ya. I don't belong to no one," she said, drawling it out with a giggle. "And I'm not about to be some little pet - a new accessory for them to own." She narrowed her eyes. She truly did despise the idea of living in a house. It would feel so caged now that she knew what true freedom was like. But then another thought - a memory - struck her and she felt confused. How had it eluded her so long? Convenient but disturbing. "Well...." She paused. No, she had to say it. "Not all humans are bad," she started awkwardly. "I mean I wouldn't want to be a pet again but one of my owners... he was really nice. I didn't mind it so much with him..." She trailed off, lost in thought. "But I know now what the other option is," she added with a grin. "And it's much better," she said reassuringly, nudging Rose playfully. It was true. Every single word. As Rose suggested their form of entertainment, Indigo's eyes lit up with excitement. "Ooh la la." She giggled. "Yes! We can go over just out of reach and taunt him and make him spring for us," she added in a rush. This was going to be so much fun. "It'll annoy him so much. Which means so much fun for us!" She laughed again. She couldn't wait! And scar. [/blockquote]

Rose nodded with excited agreement. She trotted over, keeping her body low. She hid in a bush on the lawn, hoping the dog wouldn't see or smell them. She tried to supress giggles. "The stupid thing is asleep, we'll wake him up." She whispered to her 'partener in crime.' Rose spied on the dog a little longer, and kept a close eye on any human activity. The humans had all moved to a different area of the hous, so Rose felt safe to go ahead with the plan. "Ready?" Moving quickly out of her hiding place, the dogs head didn't even lift. Rose rolled her eye, stupid animal. She turned to Indigo. "So Indigo, how are you today?" Rose said it has loudly as she could, hoping the dog would wake up. She rubbed his nose with her tail, before the dog could re-act, and darted away out of his reach. She walked right infront him, just out of reach, laughing.

Like a shadow We quiver
Indigo smirked at Rose. Ooh this was fun. Dogs had been horrible torment back in her pet days and now hat she had the chance to get back at one, she was ready to take it. Who cared if it was the same dog? Payback's a bitch. Plain and simple. She giggled and darted out after Rose, grinning as her friend daringly reached to bat the dog's nose with her tail tip. Indigo laughed. "I'm doing fine, thank you, Rose," she said loudly. "Think this thing'll wake up anytime soon?" She snorted.
She took a step closer, reaching out to swipe at it's nose with her paw - and claws. As soon as she had she leapt backwards, nearly stumbling over her own paws, and brought upon another round of laughter. The dog let out a howl of pain, jumping up suddenly. Indigo gave a shriek of amusement as it lunged for her. Just before it could get it's teeth around her, the chain snapped it back in place. She laughed shakily. Even knowing the risk, that was close. The dog growled from the chain, pulling and trying to break free. She glanced over at Rose.
With excitement.

Rose laughed, and kept a eye on the house. She could see movement inside. Humans! She glanced over at Indigo. "Don't mean to be a downer but I think the humans are going to come out soon." With another swish of her tail, Rose tormented the dog once more before trotting back into the cover of the bushes. "You can keep playing if you'd like, I'll keep an eye on the humans." Rose didn't want to get hurt, and she didn't want her new friends to get hurt either. She watched the house, still seeing movement, but no one in the front window. Maybe they won't notice. The thought was kind of sad. Humans keep pets, but don't care for them.

An drum roll please...
Indigo's eyes widened. Humans! Ugh. She rolled her eyes. "Stupid humans," she hissed. She grinned, chuckling as Rose took another swish at the maddened dog. She wrinkled her nose. No wonder humans were coming, the dog was making such a racket! "You can keep playing if you'd like, I'll keep an eye on the humans." Indigo dashed after her friend. "Nah, it's more fun with a friend than alone," she assured Rose. She wouldn't let her friend sit back and lay guard for her. That wasn't exactly fair. She ducked into bushes.
"So! That was fun! You certainly know a lot about excitement. I love excitement. The whole adrenaline rush thing. It's addicting!" She bounced up and down slightly on her toes, rambling on and on before blushing. "Oops, sorry. Haha guess the adrenaline's still here. Weird eh, we weren't there along. I guess excitement gives me adrenaline too. Or something like that." She nodded enthusiastically, completely aware that she needed to calm down. In through the nose out through the mouth. She stopped bouncing. "Alright, think I'm better - a bit." She laughed. "Sooo, any ideas what we should do now?"

Rose smiled, glad her friend was having some fun. "We could exploe the humans houses. I love climbing on top of the houses." She smiled and glanced around. Maybe we could go inside one of the houses some day. Rose had never managed to get inside the homes but it had always been her dream. It was hard though, the doors and windows were normally closed. Maybe when the hot weather comes someone will leave a window open, and we'll just climb in. Rose danced at the prospect of full filling her dream. "You pick, I chose last time." She smiled at her friend. She was sure Indigo would have some great ideas.

Indigo grinned at this idea. "The rooftops, eh?" Life as a stray was without doubt a bazillion times more exciting then as a housecat, she concluded. Though it wasn't as if there'd ever been a huge controversy or mental debate for her. The answer was simple: stray life beat pet life every single time. Without question. She smirked. "You sure no your way to get excitement," she teased with a chuckle. She'd never hyave guessed upon meeting Rose that the she-cat was such a dare-devil. A risk-taker just like Indigo.
"Well I do love heights," she replied with a wry grin. "So the rooftops it is!" She glanced around. "How do we get up?" She frowned. Her eyes swept over the yard before something struvk her. "There's vines up the side of the house," she admitted. "Do we climb those? Or should we try and leap ontop of the shed from the fence and then from the top of the shed to the overhang of the back extension of the house and then from there to the roof - up the slant?" It seemed logicial in her head. Leaping onto the fence would be no problem, then the shed. The roof slanted down onto the roof of the extension at the back of the house. They could jump onto the roof of the extension, climb up the slant and then be at the top! Her tail swished back and forth in excitement.

Rose smiled, pleased that Indigo was so excited and happy. "Whatever was is easiest for you. I sometimes climb the drain pipes, but you can uses fences, trees, anything you want." She smiled and nodded towards the house. "You can pick our route this time." She waited for Indigo to chose and as she did she gazed over at the dog. He wa slaying down rubbing his nose on the ground, where Indigo scratched him. She chuckled quietly. part of her enjoyed seeing the dog get what he deserved, but part of her felt sorry for the creature. He had no chance.

She smirked. "Let's try some jumping," she said with a chuckle. She trotted - out of the dog's range - over to the fence and leapt nimbly up on top of it, her tail out behind her like a banner for balance. Her eyes narrowed as she took in the route they would take. "From here to the shed roof, to the roof of the extension, climb up the slant and ta-da!" she murmured to Rose. "Only three jumps really. Two for me." She giggled quietly.
She glanced down at the ground with a familiar thrill of satisfaction. How she loved heights - even this didn't exactly count. But the rooftop: that would be a true height. She smirked and straightened up, then dashed across the top of the fence and came to a sharp stop, managing not to fall off. Sweet. She glanced at the roof of the shed. It lay about three feet away - maybe a foot or so higher than the fence. She bunched her muscles.
And sprung.

Rose followed close behind, nearly running into Indigo in the process. When she reached the edge of the shed, still on the fence, Rose prepared herself to leap. Anticipating she prepared her back legs and pushed off the fence, easily reaching the shed. She smiled as she reached the roof top, but not wanting to stop there, she looked over at the house. It was a good 5 feet away, but the excitment of it all edged Rose on. Moving to the other side of the shed, she took a run at it. One minute she was soaring through the air, the next she was falling. As she fell, Rose managed to catch the eaves drough, holding on for dear life. With a few swings of her legs she swung at top the roof. She looked back for Indigo. "Indigo, try getting up here! Be careful though. It's quiete the jump"

Indigo breathed in calmly, landing neatly on the shed roof after Rose. The other she-cat kept going though and jumped off the shed roof without a second's thought. Indigo's eyes widened in horror as Rose fell and she let out a sharp shriek. "Omigod," she sighed in relief as her friend righted herself. "Careful," she tease-giggled. She inhaled deeply and then scampered to the end of the shed nroof and flung herself off and upwards...
Her claws scrabbled against the edge of the roof and she threw herself forwards to land safely. "Phew. That is a tough jump." She nudged Rose. "Bit easier if you wait and prepare though," she teased with a soft laugh. Then she scampered past her friend, up the slope of the roof to where it flattened out a bit. Her jaw dropped.
"Wow," she breathed slowly. The entire neighborhood was laid out before her eyes, stretching as far as she could see. "There's the long road... the farm and the fields... the park... the woods." She smiled. It was unbelievable. "I-I.... Now I know what people really mean by 'undescribable'" she said with another laugh. "I-I don't know how to describe it all! Beyond words!" She closed her eyes and tried to keep the image in her head.
"The sun is starting to set so it casts a golden glow on the neighborhood. The houses are mainly earthly tones and they form a small network of streets, homes and yards. There seems to be a circle envelopping three main lanes. The long road runs by the neighborhoos and stretches past it where it delves into fields. The farm and barn are visible in a bright red contrast. The woods appear soft in the sunlight - mystical and hazy. The park swings are in front, they seem softer from here - less in contrast with the nature around them."
She opened her eyes slowly with a small smile. "Maybe you don't need big words to describe it..."
