Willow did not know what to do next. He had been adopted and deserted three times before and could not take any more heartbreak. How was he supposed to become a normal adult without communicating or experiencing something interesting? Willow decided to abandon his box and look for some adventure outside of the four pieces of cardboard he had been living in for most of his life. He set out before dawn and began simply walking. Looking for something interesting that might pop out at him with no warning.
Willow got the surprise that he asked for and before he could even blink, he was blinded by two bright headlights of a car. He was just like a deer caught in headlights and did not know how to react. Unfortunately, the driver did not see Willow because he was so tiny but his size was an advantage for him because as the car sped by, Willow just barely slid underneath the car.
He was in such a state of shock that he just stood there for about ten minutes barely breathing and blinking. Willow was finally woken up from his petrified state by an unusual sound coming from his right. He followed this sound until he reached a dead end. Willow thought he was just hallucinating but then he heard the sound again and looked up. He saw a great hawk attacking a helpless bluebird. Willow tried his best to create a distraction and started purring as loud as possible. The hawk realized that Willow was making that sound and headed for him. The bluebird was hurt and could not move but just as the hawk was heading towards Willow, a squirrel was passing by on an electrical line.
The squirrel jumped off the line and ran over to Willow and the hawk. Willow tried his best to communicate with squirrel and ask for help. The squirrel seemed to understand and began to distract the hawk while Willow clawed and bit the hawk with all the strength he had in him. By the time the hawk was becoming weaker and weaker, the fight attracted a few more squirrels that were passing by. The squirrels scurried to the scene and tried their best to help Willow attack the hawk. For some reason, without even being asked, the squirrels just knew what to do and in no time the hawk was unconscious.
Willow ran over to the unconscious bluebird. He got help from the squirrels and they fixed the bluebird up as good as new. The bluebird woke up after a few hours and realized that Willow had taken her to his box. Willow tried talking to the bluebird and the bluebird understood! Her name was Dawn. She thanked him until her head hurt. He said that it was no big deal but that he had to get going soon. Dawn said that she was going to stay in the box for a while and hopes that she can see him again soon. Willow agreed and head out onto the Old Road.
