Get down Put your back into it Indigo trotted up the road lightly, trying to remember the little strip of human food places that she had passed by. Her nose wrinkled with distaste. Of course, she had only seen in when in the car on that fateful drive when bloody Marianne or whatever her name was had freaking abandoned her like so no-good used out toy! A hiss escaped her maw and she stopped, breathing in and out slowly to try and calm herself. There was no logical reason for her to still be mad. She loved her life on the streets. Hell, she was even telling others that she ran away.
Of course, that had more to do with reputation than what she actually wished had happened.
Her tail lashed from side to side with frustration as she walked down the road, feeling the crunch of stones beneath her paw. Her whiskers quivered with the anger that she had kept inside. She stopped again. Breathe in. Breathe out. It was a simple concept - so why did she have to keep reminding herself? Holding her breath was starting to come naturally and that was never a good thing. Her ear twitched as a car rumbled by and she let out an involuntarily growl of warning. You're almost there, she reminded herself. The market hadn't been too far from where she'd been 'dropped off'.
Hopefully Reed wasn't having trouble following her. But seriously, if he was gonna live on the streets than he couldn't be babied by everyone. No one else would treat him special so there was no reason for Indigo to start such indulgement. Her mouth curled into a smirk. Funny how she was the one being overly motherly. She winced. Okay no. That wasn't even funny to joke about. Why? She sighed. It wasn't that she didn't like kittens - they were cute after all. They just took such a toll on mothers and were so much work and then you had to deal with them all leaving you after time hard speant caring for them. She shook her head angrily. Kittens were more trouble than they were worth. The only reason she was able to help Reed out was because he wasn't hers. Ouch. Another thought to make her wince.
She didn't plan on having kittens soon, obviously. Maybe not ever. If she ever did, it would someday way off into the future when she was 'all grown up.' She chuckled at the thought. Finally. She had arrived. She skirted behind the building quickly, avoiding humans. Common sense told her she wouldn't be wanted. That and the basic smarts that you picked up even after a day of being on the streets. And there they were - dumpsters stacked high with garbage and easy to get into. Perfect. Little Reed should be perfectly fine. Speaking of which... "Reed?" she called out, just making sure.

Reed trotted up, closer to Indigo's side. "Yes?" He smiled as he ran to keep up with her lnog graceful strides. He looked up at the larger she-cat, happy that someone had taken interest in him. He had been alone for the past week, and then his sister had treated him badly. He was just happy someone was willnig to talk to him without hurting his feelings. Although being with Indigo had it's ups and downs. The ups were clear and out weighed the downs. She was nice to talk to, and seemed very fridnly. Of course all cats have there downs, and Indigo's was kind of a sore spot for Reed. He was a kitten. In the short time Reed had known Indigo, he had managed to figure out that she wasn't crazy about kittens. It was the way she looked disinterested and upset while he talked. They way she didn't look at him much, just a few quick glances here and there. She just seemed bored. It still upset Reed, but he would deal. Right now, other then Indigo, he hano one.

She grinned, flicking him playfully with his tail as he walked up. "Just making sure I hadn't left you behind," she reased, grinning. She turned her head to sweep over the garbage dumpsters and then turned back to Reed. "Well, these here are where humans leave their trash. And, you, uh, may have noticed that humans are very wasteful and throw out lots of food that could still be eaten." She twitched slightly. "Which is where, uh, scavenging comes in for us cats," she managed. Oh god. Oh god oh god. This was where it got tricky. It felt so weird acting like his teacher and everything. She wanted to help him out but all this made her think of but being responsible and motherly and that stuff - stuff she didn't want to be.
Her tail swished across the dirt behind her and she turned away, trotting over to the dumpsters. "So, uh, just jump up," she continued. Demonstrating, she readied herself and leapt up, making it over neatly and landing on top of a garbage bag. "It stinks but you get used to it," she caled back with a laugh. See? When she was just talking things were fine - it got awkward when she had to teach him. But she wanted to help Reed so she plowed on anyways. "The good thing is that you can't be seen so if you're quiet the humans might not notice you. But you also can't really see the coming so some cats grab food and go. Though we do have the advantage of smell," she boasted. "Those humans nose aren't good for anything." She giggled.

Reed smiled, and laughed here and there. He was distracted though. By the sheer size of the dumpster that sat in front of him. He looked to it's left and right to see if there were any objects to make the jump a little smaller. When nothing appeared, he sighed and gulped down a nervous lump in his throat. he took a few steps farther away from the dumpster, and turned to face it. He ready himself, and launched forward with a burst of speed. He sprung into the air with only small power from his hind legs. His run gave him enoguh speed, actually to much. Instead of landing cleanly on the side of the bin, he flew right into it's contents. He laughed quietly, remembering the humans, and looked up at Indigo. "I hope I get better."

Indigo glanced over the edge of the dumpster to see if Reed was coming. Ah, there he was. As the kit jumped, Indigo found herself hoping he'd make it over. She need'nt have worried. Indigo's eyes widened as Reed flew closer and she ducked down just in time as he flew over her head and into the garbage. She let out a nervous giggle. "You're a better jumper than I'd have figured, Reed," she teased, still wondering where all that power had come from.
She smiled sweetly. "Of course you will. You know the old saying, 'practice makes perfect'" She wrinkled her nose. "Personally I don't agree cause there are some out there that won't be perfect at a certain thing no matter how hard they try and should really just move on." She laughed. "But practice will certainly make it better. Though you did pretty fine, I'll admit," she said with a smirk. "Oops, I forgot, quiet!" she giggle-whispered. She couldn't even follow her own rules. Tsk tsk.

Reed giggled but kept quiet. His first time 'dumpster diving' shouldn't involve being caught by humans. That just wouldn't be a good way to end a half way to decent day. He grinned from ear to ear, rather proud that he made the jump. "I didn't think I could do it. I thought I'd slam right into the side and fall flat on my face." He giggled again. "I'm going to practice a lot. I mean falling in is better then slamming into the side, but the smell is just....bleh." He laughed, but his little nose was already ajusting to the scent, and slowly but surely the contents of the bin began to smell rather good.

Indigo laughed at Reed, despite her earlier comment about being quiet. Well... she was laughing quietly. She smirked, shaking her head sadly at herself. "Yeah, slamming into the side is a big no no. I have no clue how to fix bones and stuff so..." she winced at the thought of poor Reed. "Though you might have just been a bit banged up," she teased, flicking the kitten lightly with her tail.
She giggled. "Of course the smell is 'bleh' - it's a garbage! Humans mix together all the food they don't want with random old crap that they also don't want and the end result is a stinky mess. But you can find some good eats," she addd, laughing at her own choice of language. She began to root through the garbage bag at her paws. It was still gross but food was food and she was getting a bit hungry. As if the bones visible through her sides weren't proof enough. She snorted.
Her nose caught scent of something yummy and she sniffed eagerly, churning through the garbage faster. It didn't take long for her to uncover a handful of chicken balls and rice leftovers, thrown out from the small chinese restaurant at the strip. "Mmm! Reed, look here. No clue what it is but it smells good. Smells like... chicken!" She giggled and snatched a chicken ball up in nher jaw, chomping down eagerly but somewhat cautiously. She had no need to worry though. "Mmmmm, Reed, have one. They're good!"

Reed took the chicken ball and started at it. He had never seen anything like it in his lfie. "That's made from chickens?" He started at her, utterly surpirsed. He had now idea where it came from on a chicken. He shrugged and bent down, taking a large bite. It was still a little warm, and it soothed his hunger slightly. "That's really good!" He took another big bite chomping down on it, grinning. He savoured the yummy taste. He licked his lips as he started at the other substance Indigo had found. "May I try a little of, what did you call it? Oh yes, rice?" He wondered what this food would taste like.

Indigo let out a little laugh at Reed's disbelief. He was officially beyond cute. "Yep," she said with a snort. "don't ask how but that's what someone else told me. And if you sniff it - it does smell like chicken," she admitted grudgingly before rolling her eyes and letting out a little laugh. She felt foolishly pleased with herself - that she was teaching Reed the 'ways of the streets' by passing ont to him her 'street smarts.'
She grinned and nudged the rice over closer to the kitten. "Sure," she replied with a smile, giggling as a few grains stuck to her fur. she licked it off carefully before tsking as if this was such a horrible occurance. "Honestly," she sighed. "Humans should invent much less stickier foods," she said, shaking her head sadly. But she could only last a moment before grinning wryly.

Reed giggled, and took a tiny bite of the rice. "Hmmmm, it is good! Your right though, it is sticky!" He laughed, pulling it out of his fur. He jumped up on to the dumpster again, this time landing on the edge. He realized now that hi didn't need such a big jump. He dug around, and smelt something tasty. He found a little bag, which the scent was coming from. He hoped out and ploped down on the gronud beside the bin. He nudged the bag until a hafl-eaten tuna sandwhich fell out. He took a tiny bite. "That's good! Taste this Indigo!" He nudged the sandwhich towards her. "Do you have any idea what it is?" He grinned, happy he found something.

Indigo laughed at Reed's cute antics and found that she was enjoying her time spent with the kitten. Wonders never ceased. "Told ya," she teased, poking the little tom lightly. She watched Reed jump back at the dumpster - landing perfectly on the edge. "Bravo!" she cried softly, a wry grin apparent on her face. Soon enough Reed re-appeared with a little bag clamped in his jaws.
She raised one brow but before she could ask anything, the contents tumbled out. She frowned. What? Some kind of weird thing that smelt like fish. She shrugged. "I honestly have no clue. The stuff outside the fish looks like," she paused, trying to remember what it was called. "Bread," she stated after a moment's hesitation. She grinned. "Yep: bread." She leaned down and nibbled off a small bite. "Mmm, good."

Reed smiled, and took a few big helpnigs of the tuna and bread combo. He blushed, realizing how rude it must appear to Indigo. "Sorry, Indigo, did you want anymore?" He nudged the food towards her, so if she wanted some she could. Licking his lips, Reed felt how dry they were. He knew he was thirsty, but he didn't want to pester Indigo for anything else. He looked around, wondering if there was any water around. He saw nothing in sight, so he sat down. He tried not to think of his dry throat, but his thirst won. "Do you know where we can get something to drink Indigo?" He felt embarassed and pathetic as he said it.

Indigo blinked. "Nah, I'm fine." She wasn't hungry. She didn't get hungry either unless she hadn't eaten in days so she often forgot to ate. But that was alright - Indigo only really ate for the sake of feeding herself and not because she loved food, though some of it could be quite alright when given the chance. Her eyes wanderedover her surroundings, flitting from here to there. It took her a minute to realize she was bored.
Reed said something else. She blinked. Then it registered in her brain - sometimes it was like that: she heard something and than re-heard it correctly in her mind. Don't ask how. He had been asking about getting a drink. "You might find some water that ran down the pipes but it hasn't rained recently." She frowned. "There's a river in the forest. We could head there if you want?"
Oh god. Now she was becoming an uptalker.

Reed shifted nervosuly as thoughts of Dandi and his fight. I wonder if she'll be there. She was always talking about how she wanted to see a bear. She would probably be there, waiting for something interesting to come along. He grimaced at the thought. He was anticipating his next chat with Dandi, and he certainly didn't feel ready to have it yet. "I can wait." He bit at the inside of his mouth, wondering how long he could put up with the thirst that plagued him. It was strange and un-nerving to know that such a small thing as thirst, could cause so much misfortune.

Indigo blinked at Reed. The kitten had just said that he was thirsty and now... he wasn't? Kitten minds were truly beyond her, it seemed. "Are you sure? It doesn't matter to me," she replied back breezily with a laugh. But she wasn't going to push. If Reed was going to be a stray he could learn to get water when he needed it. He would need to when he was alone.
When would that be anyhow? Indigo hoped Reed didn't think she meant to raise him or whatever like other strays did with kittens. True, she was fond of the little tyke but... She winced. Kittens were a big no no. A big big big no no. She giggled at that thought. "Soooooo, you wanna go somewhere else? Or are you getting bored of me?" she teased. In truth, she was getting bored. Not of Reed but of her location. Dumpsters and rice could only hold one's attention for so long, she mused with a smirk.
Admin's Edit on June 24th: This thread is being locked. If you wish to have it opened, PM me. If not, let's assume. -They drink some water from the rain gutters -Indigo decides to head to the forest -Reed wants to avoid Dandi and says he has to go somewhere else
