ooc: Like the name? Anyways, I'm gonna be totally illogical and plot-challenged here by saying that they were thrown into the water by an earthquake. So yeah.
Shaking.
Soul could feel the earth shaking.
Having never experienced something such as this, naturally the first thing the orange tabby did was panic. Crouching low on the ground, he looked for a tree to climb so that he could freak out in the safety of tall branches, completely disregarding the fact that that went against every existing safety regulation in the book. But Soul couldn't read anyway.
There!
He spotted a nice tall oak slightly trembling with the sudden force, but before he could run towards it and huddle, he heard a terrible snapping noise, watching in dismay as it fell to the ground.
I'm so screwed! Soul thought, glancing around with wide amber eyes. Noises erupted all around him, and he saw more and more trees crash down to the ground and crush much more lush greenery beneath them.
He was, essentially, trapped.
If he tried to take shelter in the trees, there was a high chance of being crushed by one. But if he stayed on the grassy plains beside the water, then the water level might rise and carry him out to the waterfall- which was a very, very dangerous place. You either drowned, broke a few bones, or got out with a severe psychological scarring in terms of your feelings towards water.
Option B sounds the most preferable. That's... discouraging, he thought, inwardly sighing. But there's always the chance that the water won't do that... I'll have to take the chance.
Digging his claws into the trembling dirt beneath him, he tensed his muscles and clenched his teeth, squeezing his eyes closed.
A few seconds later felt like days, but just when he thought that the shaking was getting weaker, he felt a cold, seeping feeling in his paws.
His eyes snapped open, and he looked down, startled to see his own horrified face reflected beneath him.
Water.
Soul spun around, his terror deepening when he found himself face to face with an over-flowing river. The small waves in the water were getting rougher and steadily growing in size.
"I'll have to run for it," He murmured, turning around and trying to judge the distance between him and the trees. But before he could come to a conclusion a massive swelling sound roared behind him, and then he was spinning around the face the river for the second time in less than a minute.
Only this time, there was a colossal tidal-wave staring him in the face.
"...Oh, shi-"
The wave swallowed Soul whole.

Melody loped to the place that she had fist been after being attacked by that evil man. She had memories of meeting a strange orange she-cat and a charming tom. The roar of the falls always made pleasant squares in her vision that she didn't mind as much as the other colors. It made her happy, she closed her blood orbs and listened for a moment, happy to be at peace.
Oh if only you could be at peace for more than a minute in this world.
Just as she was about to go into her meditative trans, the ground began to shake. This made brown rectangles roll into her eyesight. They were thick, and the sound thudded against her skull. What was happening? Why was this firm earth shaking? She meowed as the ground beneath her paws began to shake uncontrollably, and caved in, causing her to fall. Alright, she thought. There's two options here, die or live in pain. Honestly, there's not much to live for but- As she tumbled towards the crashing waves that sent teal slashes through her eyes, she heard something.
"...Oh shi-"
This 'something' sounded much like a cat and sent blue splotches into the falling air swiftly. SOUL!? She shrieked. Damn it, I meant to shriek in my head, I hate that guy... And she crashed with a very loud SMACK into the overflowing river.
Now, Mel was a rather good swimmer for a cat, but the waves made it hard to get to the surface. She moved her paws in such a flurry to get to the top that she finally broke the surface, took a big gulp of air before a gigantic tidal wave slammed down on her head. Her big red orbs opened under water and could see the orange cat silhouette, she swam towards it. Soul was struggling, hard. She wanted to save him but she was running out of air, being the nice cat she was she swam down towards him. Once she reached him, her lungs were out of the air that she needed to help him. She breathed in water, bad choice. Goodbye world...see ya on the other side jerkface Sou- Was the last thing she thought before she blacked out.

His name...
Someone was calling his name.
four senses had been abandoned for one very long moment under the water- he couldn't hear anything, smell anything, taste anything, or feel anything. All he could see was a deep, deep blue that somehow mad him want to start screaming.
And then he remembered the last few minutes. Releasing a flurry of bubbles when he tried to yell, he began to try and get to the surface- those soft, pale gray clouds were taunting him in the sky above.
If I don't breath soon, I'm really going to die, he realized with a jolt, and he around himself, sight being his only working sense right now anyways. Silver bubbles erupted all around him as something else made contact with the water-
Blue, white, blue, white, blue... red?
He caught site of desperate red eyes, and the name flew to the top of his head effortlessly- Melody?
He mouthed her name, eyes widened, but unfortunately, that sort of hurt, so he blinked a few times.
Then he noticed she was moving downwards.
What? No, she can't be thinking about trying to come down here... She can still make it to the top... Don't come any closer...!
But it was all he could to to struggle in the abyss, keeping himself from falling deeper into that endless blue. She was getting so close, so close...
But her need for air overwhelmed her, and he watched in horror as her eyes shut and she fell still.
No.
He jerked up, grabbing a hold of the soft white fur around the back of her neck, and then willed himself forward. Up, up, swim up...!
His energy was at a new low now, and he was sure he had to have pulled a few muscles fighting the current- she was too heavy. Even if he was only trying to save himself, he wasn't sure he could make it.
But with that thought in his mind he clenched his teeth tighter around the she-cats neck, fighting forward while getting nowhere.
Another swirl of bubbles alerted him of a new object entering the water, and his eyes widened when he recognized the soft brown haze of a tall oak, which was quickly being torn apart in the current.
Go there!
Reaching out, his paw clutched at water, trying to reach the wood. He wouldn't make it... He was too far... air...
Contact. Digging his claws into the wood, Soul put the last of his strength into pulling himself and Mel up onto the wide tree trunk. Throwing the white she-cat over the edge, he heaved himself up and collapsed beside her, taking a huge breath of air before lapsing deep into unconsciousness.

The blackness of unconsiousness was rather pleasant. It was quiet, dark, and nice. Peaceful even. There was nothing that could ruin this. Melody was already dead, it wasn't possible that anything could bug her. Her soul was on it's way to heaven and she could rest in peace and play in the clouds. She wouldn't have to worry about her stupid colors...she suddenly realized that there were no colors in this blackess. All she wanted! Quiet, peace, and no colors. It was amazingly strange though, she couldn't hear anything, or feel anything for that matter. She tried to open her mouth to say something, but no words came out. Strange. She couldn't see her comforting yellow stripes...she suddenly missed them.
In her black solitude, she was suddenly thrown through space to a tunnel. There were two lights. One was pure white, blinding even, and it had bells behind it. There was another that wasn't as white and it had a sound of waves crashing eachother. A lightbulb flickered in her head. This was it. This was the ultimate choice.
Life or death.
It was such a hard decision. She didn't feel like she had much of a purpose in this world, but there were also so many things she could miss. Like, meeting new faces. Uh, yeah...she wasn't the type to be confronted that much. She'd also miss her colors. Sure she hated them, but they were also really conforting to see. They made her remember things. Like, she wouldn't have tried to save Soul if she didn't have her colors, she wouldn't have lived long enough without her colors. They were her life. She also would be missing the chance of love and a family, sure she looked pretty scary, but there was a slim chance that she would find the perfect one. Not a big one though.
She bit her lip and stood up. She looked at the gateway to heaven, for it would be a very long time before she saw it again. She turned her back on it and walked back to the real world for all of those things that she would miss if she left. She was back in her body. She felt a hard wooden thing on her belly and she was struggling to hang on. She breathed slowly, trying to get her breath back. She was happy to be back, but what was she on?
ooc: yeah, sorry about that. O.o i get a little weird at night if you didn't notice.

ooc:... She was on... crack. Sorry, that last line set me up for that one
Soul wasn't sure how long he had laid there for. The only comfort to him was his own steady breathing, and he put all of his focus and concentration on the fact that he was still alive.
Life...
He had gotten his senses back, but soon wished that he hadn't. His entire body was complaining about the underwater struggle. His legs hurt the most- a deep throbbing had also enveloped his head, and he tried to move just before immediately abandoning the idea. Instead, he let himself breath in an out, trying not to think for fear of strengthening his headache, and after a few minutes, he finally found the strength to murmur,
"Mel?"
There was no response.
Of course there wouldn't be, the rational part of his mind argued, she ran out of air almost immediately. The only reason I made it as long as I did was because of how often tricks at the circus tended to revolve around water. She's probably still unconscious. Or maybe she didn't hear me.
"Melody?"
Nothing.
He waited a few minutes, slowing his breathing down and listening to the soft waves around him. Some time into his unconsciousness the shaking had stopped and the water had calmed down quite a bit- he wished he could see over the edge and find out where he was now.
It had been nearly forty minutes since Soul had first awakened, but he was still sort of delirious. His head was pounding even worse now. The orange tabby was completely and totally defining the meaning of "past your limit".
"M... Mel," He called once more. She should've woken up by now- she should've woken up by now!
"Mel."
Why hadn't she woken up by now?
He turned his head towards her limp form, and found that she hadn't moved much from where he had dropped her. Reaching out with a weak, shaking paw, he dug his claws into the wood and pulled himself towards her, clenching his teeth as the sharp flares of pain biting at his drenched form.
He mouthed her name again, repeating the action and finally after what seemed like weeks making it to her side. Breathing hard, he peered down at her face. It was... no...
She looked peaceful.
"No..."
He lifted his paw to rest it down over where he heartbeat should've been stemming one- she was still warm. She had to be alive.
Wrong.
Her pulse. Not there.
She had to have died sometime in the last few minutes if she was still warm like that- but the thought did not pass into his mind. His headache had exploded and he felt himself fall apart.
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no!"
Shaking his head and ignoring the painful sensations coming from it, he collapsed beside her, giving into the despair that was now eating him alive. He hadn't known her very well, but someone dying in his place... It was wrong. No one should die for him. He didn't have any huge asset to society. Not that many people he came across these days even seemed to like him. He should not be taking lives, indirectly as it was.
She's dead.
"No," He moaned desperately, suddenly beginning to panic. "Mel!"
Reaching over, he began to shake her before pushing her limp figure back down and taking both paws, applying pressure to her chest like he'd seen the Maestro do to one of the performers once when he'd stayed in one the water tanks too long. The man had awoken almost immediately, coughing up water and crying in relief.
He gave up after a few seconds, staring down at her. Heart hammering in his chest, he saw something his her cheek- water? No...
Tears.
He was crying?
He watched two more hit her shoulder, and then he shook his head again, feeling his legs collapse beneath him. His head hit her chest and he let himself cry in silence, the sound of the waves suffocating. He didn't want to have to think about another death. It had been hard enough suppressing his sorrow from Maestro.
They keep dying. And you keep being there.
Another memory, much like the one he had felt arise when he had spoken with Raven. He slowly got them- fragmented thoughts that gave him clues to who he had been- but this one was one he would have preferred not to hear.
These thoughts couldn't be confused with general ones- they had a special feel- he knew what they were. And this one made him gasp sharply. The second he heard it resound his head... He heard something else.
A heart beat.
Slowly, he lifted his head to look down at Melody. Yes, it was there- the unmistakable rise and fall of steady breathing. His wide amber eyes were now staring down into her own as ruby slowly began to slip open.
Mouth slightly open, he stared down in astonishment at the white she-cat for a few more seconds until everything just overwhelmed him.
He fell down once again, face buried in the soft, and now dry fur on her shoulder, gasping out,
"Oh god, oh my god, you're alive, you're alive, thank god..."
She was alive.
She wasn't dead.
Mel was alive.

"Mel?"
She heard his voice. She saw the flashes of blue before her eyes. But she couldn't open her eyes. She was so...tired. All she wanted to do was sleep, or go somewhere soft and plush.
"Melody?"
She'd better respond...but, she couldn't find her voice. Mel wasn't able to find the strength to speak, much less open her eyes. All she did was concentrate on trying to get her heart regulating and her lungs breathing. But, they weren't working!
"M...Mel?" He sounded so...concerned. Strange. The impact he'd given her was a guy that flirted waaay too much with girls. "Mel."
Melody wasn't able to see his face but she was sure that it had to be panic-stricken. She herself was panic stricken with the fact that she couldn't breath, but could still think and listen to his voice.
"No..." She heard him mew. She felt his soft paw on her chest, where her heard should be beating strongly. "No no no no no!" She wanted to scream that she was alive, but she couldn't. It was like being in the blackness. You couldn't speak, breath, but you could listen.
"No!" He was obviously very concerned and...was his voice shaking? Was he going to cry. "Mel!" She felt something shaking her wildly then pounding on her back/chest area. He was trying to get her to breath, make her heart beat...something. He did care! Woah. Selfish flirt...care? Strange.
Suddenly, he stopped. She couldn't hear anything other than his breathing, his struggled breathing that sounded like he was crying. She didn't want to make a tom cry over her...she needed to wake up! SHE NEEDED TO BREATH. She tried to suck in air, and it worked! She breathed out. Though it was quiet, she was sure it was enough to assure Soul. She felt something hard pounding in her chest. Her heart! She'd found it.
She felt something bury into her shoulder, it felt like his head. "Oh god, oh my god, you're alive, you're alive, thank god..." He sounded relieved and...overwhelmed. She shifted and moaned. Sound! She'd found some part of her voice. The blue splotches would be forever comforting to her now, as well as the yellow stripes that slashed accross her vision.
"Hi." She managed to choke up. She was alive. She was alive.
ooc: yes, yes she was. x3

"Hi."
He froze, and without moving his head shifted his vision to the blurry red ones not a few inches from his own. For a second he didn't even breath for fear of somehow killing her with something like that, but then after another moment, he began to pull away from her, taking a deep breath of air. Soul would never take oxygen for granted again.
He met her ruby eyes, breathing out a greeting.
"Hey..."
Now that he had calmed down a little, he really didn't know what to say. He wanted to make sure that she was alright, but a part of him just wanted to sit there staring at her forever, with the thoughts in his mind running over and over again. She's alive... You saved her... She's alive... you saved her...
"F... Feeling okay?" He asked hesitantly, looking away and sniffling slightly, suddenly embarrassed. He had cried. How unmanly. She must think he was... She must think he...
But he wasn't even able to finish the thought before he realized just how superficial it was to be focusing on opinions at a time like this. The white she-cat was live, and that really was all the mattered. Who cared about the fact that they were stranded in the middle of the water. Who cares if they were both too sore too move.
Who cared.
A sharp intake of breath, and then he leaned in so that he was face-to-face with Melody. Narrowing his eyes, he growled out,
"If you ever, ever do something like that again, I'll stop your heart myself."
He lingered there for another moment, seemingly searching her ruby eyes for something unfathomable, but then suddenly he leaned back again, averting his gaze for the second time. It wasn't like Soul to be so distant, but the tom was shaken; according to his fragmented memories, he'd watched death happen before.
Oh yes; there'd be nightmares tonight.

She watched his orange body tense up, how scared he must've been. Having to watch somebody die right before your eyes must be just awful. Mel didn't think she would be able to do that at all, no siree. How could he keep his composure. Sure, this experience had brought out a whole new face for Soul, and he wasn't being himself. She stopped this thought. Of course he wasn't! He'd just watched her come back from the God damned dead! Of course, he would never ever get to know that...maybe he would later in life. But, right now, this secret was all hers.
His yellow eyes met her red ones.
How could he look into such hideous depths? How in god's name was he not cowering in fear or shunning her, or even scared of her? Everybody else where she had come from was. It was just strange. How could this tom not be like the rest of them, cowering away from her, and always averting her eyes. But, he had looked directly at them. She could go on and on about how uncalled for that was. But, she wasn't going to, because he'd returned her greeting.
"Hey..." Blue splotches. Of course.
She couldn't bring herself to speak to him. How much fright, and sadness she had caused him. How much more suffering could he endure. Surely they wouldn't be able to sleep, much less survive out here in the overflowing riverbed. Who knew what was in the dark, murky liquid? Phiranahs, alagators, monster catfish, anything could be in there. They wouldn't be able to sleep. And by morning they would be starving.
"F-feeling ok?" He asked unsure. She hadn't really been paying attention to him until now, but he seemed utterly worried. Melody nodded quickly and looked at the log. How wide was it? They couldn't just dangle their paws in open water could they? She growled to herself. They had to survive.
"If you ever, ever do something like that again, I'll stop your heart myself." He growled at her, he was angry with her. The blue splotches shot at her witha force.
She couldn't help but feeling guilty and she was sure her face portrayed it. How could he not tell that she was just trying to save him? She tried with all of her strength to pull herself onto the oak log. "We can't possibly just let our paws dangle off the log at night. It's not safe." She muttered, just loud enough so he could maybe hear it. Once she was on top of the log she breathed out and closed her eyes. She was so tired, but she wasn't going to be able to sleep.

ooc: Made a sig for Melody, since I was excited to get my photoshop back x3 Clicksss.
Soul was just beginning to calm down, listening intently as his heartbeat slowed to a steady, calm beat. With all his senses back, his friend's (at least he thought they were friends, in a bizarre, unspoken way- the orange tom wasn't sure how she felt about him though) safety secured, Soul was feeling better already.
Unfortunately, that made him open up to his surroundings now.
And he did not like what he saw.
It only really hit him that he was stranded in the middle of dangerous waters with zero energy, not food, and an albino with the intent to kill (sometimes even herself, as she'd proven earlier) on his side. A sigh escaped his lips when he looked at the dark waters beneath him from over the edge of their raft- it would be a long night.
Speaking of night, the sun was just starting to disappear over the mountains, leaving the area doused in a soft silence, the quiet wind rustling through the trees and the waves calm, minuscule splashing against each other being the only sounds discernible from their own steady breathing, after a moment he said,
"Well, there is not way I'm going to fall asleep tonight, so we should think of something to pass the time until we hit the shore."
Or die, he finished silently, fixating the white-she cat with his amber gaze. A devious smile soon followed and he asked slyly,
"We could play... Truth or dare..."
Truthfully, it felt really good to openly flirt like that, because that was him- the out-of-line flirt that drove every she-cat to the point of insanity. Just being able to lapse back into his normal ways had a reassuring side to it that made him breath easier.
"I don't care what you say- I know you won't be able to sleep either. Plus, it would be very bad if we did- there are a lot of dangerous wildlife out here that could take us out in the blink of an eye. We should stay awake- and what better caffeine is there than adrenaline?"
Reasoning with the stubborn albino proved to be the only way to go- besides, there was much the too could learn about- and from- each other.
How much harm could one round of truth or dare cause?
ooc: Much.

"Well, there is no way I'm going to fall asleep tonight, so we should think of something to pass the time until we hit the shore."
What could they do out here in the open waters, as the sun was setting? What are the options? I Spy? Seriously? The only things out here were, orange, white, blue...rainbow..but to Soul's eyes the only colors out here were orange, white, red, green, and grey. Nothing interesting, it's all bland to him. It was all very interesting to her. The water slurping made sea-green stars, the breeze made silvery whisps, her breathing made yellow stripes, it was a wonderful rainbow in her eyes. His voice made blue splotches.
"We could play... Truth or dare..."
Seriously? Oh my god. Did he just say that? Flirting now? When they were on a log in the middle of a river, this just didn't seem like the time or place for flirting.
"I don't care what you say- I know you won't be able to sleep either. Plus, it would be very bad if we did- there are a lot of dangerous wildlife out here that could take us out in the blink of an eye. We should stay awake- and what better caffeine is there than adrenaline?"
I guess she could see what he meant. And besides, she owed him one. He kinda did just save her life, sort of. The sad thing was that she basically sucked at truth or dare. She could never come up with any good dares. She sighed and met his gaze. Quite frankly, she didn't feel like fighting with Apo (ooc: woops. O.o) Soul at the moment. She layed down on top of the log and spoke quietly.
"I guess I owe you one. Truth or dare?"
She had no idea what she was getting herself into. None what-so-ever.

A wide, sharp-toothed grin appeared on Soul's face. She agreed to play- she agreed to play! Lying down comfortably on his stomach, Soul's smile became more lazy, and he told her smoothly,
"Okay. What else? Dare."
The clouds around them began to part a little, revealing the sun and lighting up the water around them, making the atmosphere that much lighter. The water itself had calmed down a little as well, and the surrounding trees had quite an effect on the current appearance of their situation. It made it all look almost... nice.
"So, what about you? Truth or dare?"
And through it all, the lecherous smile didn't leave his face.
ooc: o.e so short! Soz.

She saw his lazy smile spread accross his orange face. She couldn't help but grin too. What have I gotten myself into? She sighed.
"Okay. What else? Dare."
What the hell could you dare somebody to do on a log? She thought for a moment, "Jump off, pretend to drown, and let me save you." She said playfully, sending yellow swirls bouncing off the water. "I don't enjoy looking like a damsel in destress." She twitched her tail a bit.
"Oh, and truth." She smiled happily and laid on the log. The setting sun brought a cool breeze ruffling through her fur. She was happy with Soul. Melody never really thought she'd think that.
Meeeeeep. O.o

At her request, Soul was feeling mildly nonplussed. The only thing worse than being a damsel in distress was being a male damsel in distress. Still, it was clever, and she couldn't very well turn the dare down when he'd asked for it, so he heaved a sigh, muttering good-naturedly,
"Alright alright... stupid she-cats and their big egos..."
He paused at the edge of the log, dipping a paw in and feeling the icy burn it left in his fur. Shivering slightly, he resisted the urge to glance back at Mel if only to avoid seeing that smug expression he was sure would be on her face, and without further hesitation, leaped in.
It was like being dunked under a bucket of cold water, but without the insane current and projectile trees he managed to keep himself afloat, mock-thrashing and playfully shouting to the log,
"Please help me. I am clearly drowning and am in need of some female assistance. I am not opposed to mouth-to-mouth."
He tried to keep the look on his face as a serious one but failed in the end, the wild grin on his face responding not just to the adrenaline that had leaped into his veins upon touching the water but also to the upbeat mood their game had turned things. He splashed some more, and waited for the white she-cat to come and "save him".
The new banner is nice, btw C: Cute idea! Your muse = my muse xD So here I am replying even though I've left my thread with Neko for a month -__-

"Alright alright... stupid she-cats and their big egos..."She watched him pause at the edge of the log. He couldn't..he wouldn't! She thought to herself as he shivered a little bit. As he prepared to leap, Holy shit he's really going to do it.... she thought and a smug expression spread accross her white face. She wanted to run up behind him and push him in. He leaped into the probably freezing water. She began to laugh as she watched him play splash around and say in that mocking tone: "Please help me. I am clearly drowning and am in need of some female assistance. I am not opposed to mouth-to-mouth."She rolled her eyes at the blue splotches. "Oh alright...no mouth-to-mouth though. I'm not in the mood, soaked flirty. I'll get hairballs out the wazoo!" She said as she neared his orange body just about a foot from the log. She tried to reach out to grab him, as not to get her white fur wet again. But, of course, she flopped in after him. "Oh come 'ere!" She grabbed the cuff of his neck and he was obviously helping her drag some of his wet, heavy, male weight back to the log. Melody got out and pulled him out, he obviously got himself over. "Now all of my life's journeys are complete. I'm content now." She grinned from ear to ear, "Now, truth me."I copied you! HAHA. anywhoo, my top and bottom brushes are a little thick. but what the hell. who cares? xD[/blockquote][/blockquote]

"Oh alright...no mouth-to-mouth though. I'm not in the mood, soaked flirty. I'll get hairballs out the wazoo!"
Soul, still splashing in the water, laughed at the mental image the insinuation, which only increased after she toppled over into the water beside him. Obviously leaning over the side pawing at his bobbing figure hadn't been working- she was now scowling as she waded over to his side, taking him by the scruff and dragging him through the water.
He half pulled himself over the side with Mel's help, and soon both cats were sitting on their make-shift raft, soaked to the bone and dripping wet. Shaking himself off, he let a goofy grin cover his face.
"Truth, huh? Oh, you're bold." He said sarcasticly, scratching his ear with a bright orange back leg. "Okay, let me see here..."
Thinking for a moment, a thought that had been nagging at him for a while resurfaced. He'd noticed it even if it wasn't that obvious- that was one thing about Soul. He noticed the subtle things, but almost always overlooked the incredibly obvious ones.
"And remember, truth means you have to tell the truth," he reminded strictly, long tail lashing behind him.
"Okay..." taking a deep breath, he told out in a rush, "I noticed that there's this thing about you- I mean like, it's hard to explain. Like you seem distracted, but still more in tune... Uhm, do you get me? What's that about?"
He wasn't sure if he just sounded mad, but he wanted to know. Maybe those red eyes had a trick about them- like she could hear his thoughts or something! Maybe he was just imagining it though- if there was something to it though, she had no choice- truth was truth, and it had to be told.
"I guess I'll take truth too then, since it'd be such a shame to see you getting your pretty coat all wet again."
ooc: Ahh, he's talking about the synthesia Soul learns her secret! Like my sad attempt at describing the synthesia from an outsider's view? xD
