History: Indigo was born the smallest in a litter of four but what she lacked in size she made up for in volume. Her mother, Star Honeysuckle, was a housecat in a family of a pair of humans and their two daughters. She met Indigo's father, Tiger Wintertrap, out on the streets, as she was an outdoor cat, and they mated though neither one really loved the other all that much. They were never officially mates and Star didn't change her name but she decided to give it to her kittens, knowing it would be all they would ever know of their father.
The humans named the four kittens Rosie, Pokey, Smokey and Claws. Star named them Indigo, Ash, Grey and Tiger. Being the smallest and the only girl, Indigo was constantly competing with her bigger brothers for everything from food to bragging rights. Fearless, she would launch herself at them, hissing and swiping, determined to always come out on top. With the humans however, she was a different matter, sneaking into the girls' room at night to cuddle up with them in their beds.
When Indigo and her brothers were eight weeks old, the humans decided it would be best to start to find homes for them. The girls wanted to keep all the kittens and the parents wanted to keep none. Finally it was deicded that the girls could pick one kitten to keep. Their first choice was Indigo, however the parents felt uneasy about keeping the most spirited and fierce one of the batch. In the end they chose Grey (whom they called Smokey) seeing as he was the most docile and calm of the bunch.
The girls cried as homes were quickly found for Ash (Pokey) and Tiger (Claws) within days however weeks continued to pass and still no home had been found for Indigo (Rosie). When Indigo and Grey were nearing three months, Star went out one night and never returned. The humans put up many posters of her and searched everywhere to no avail. Indigo and Grey were shocked that there mother had disappeared without warning and the girls sobbed as they thought of their poor kitty lost in the cold. After a while, Indigo realized what her brother had not. Perhaps Star hadn't run away. Perhaps she was dead.
As sad as the girls were though, they quickly realized that this meant they could keep Indigo. After all, their parents had allowed two cats. Grudgingly, the parents accepted and stopped putting up 'Kitten For Sale' posters around the neighborhood of Chershire. For a couple months, Indigo and Grey lived a blissful life- especially Indigo who easily managed to boss her timid brother around and became queen of the roost. However the good times could not last forever and it was soon discovered that the younger girl was allergic to cats. And then it was off to the local animal shelter for Indigo and Grey without a second thought.
The shelter was a cold and horrible place and Indigo hated it more than anything she had ever experience. Because of the fact they were kittens, the other cats assured her and her brother they would soon be adopted. Grey would meow when humans came nearby and purr when they held him. He was adopted within days. Indigo would stay in the back of her cage and hiss when humans came near. There was something about these humans she didn't like. Nonetheless, a young man came and adopted her when she had been in the shelter for about a week or two.
Through patience and many fine gourmet meals, the young man, Jeff, soon won Indigo over and she became 'his girl'. When he arrived home she would run to the door purring and wind herself around his legs until he picked her up and cuddled her. Indigo was happier than she ever been in her life. Jeff owned two other cats as well, large persian brothers named Shadow and Simon, who kept her company during the day. Indigo was the little princess of the house and it obvious she lavished the attention as she lapped it up eagerly. Jeff called her Sibah, but to her surprise she found she actually liked the name.
One day, Jeff did not return home. Indigo meowed puzzedly at the door, waiting for her beloved man to get home soon yet he did not come. It was not until the next morning that someone came in and fed them. Meowing puzzedly, Indigo crept over and wound herself around the legs of the newcomer, a young women who sat on the couch with her face in her hands, crying. She was Jeff's younger sister, though Indigo did not know this and her name was Marianne. Jeff had died the previous night in a car crash while he was driving home. Another car had swerved on the wet road and crashed into him from the front. He died instantly.
Indigo could not have known any of this but she soon realised her Jeff was not coming back. Marianne knew how much Jeff loved his cats and her parents agreed they would watch the two males. However they said there was no way they could watch a youngster like Indigo, only an adult for a few months. Marianne lived in a small aprtement and knew that her brother's beloved Sibah would not be happy there. So she drove down the long road into the countryside and just sat there in her car with Indigo on her lap and the sunroof open. It wasn't the sunniest of days but they both enjoyed the breeze.
Crying, Marianne hugged Indigo and told her how much her brother had loved her and how much she loved her brother. She wanted to keep her but she knew such a fine cat shouldn't waste away in an apartment. She told her she would try adn come back here when she had the chance and she would keep her eyes out for Indigo. She said now Indigo could wander as she please. She could be the little princess of the streets. With her tough little spirit Jeff had always spoken of, Marianne knew she could survive. And with that, Marianne softly let her go. And then, crying, she drove back into town.
Personality: Indigo Wintertrap is a feisty little thing when roused and she's not afraid to get in someone's face if she doesn't like what they're doing. Many often get the first impression from her that she's the kind to seek fights for the thrill they give however this is mostly wrong. Though Indigo does love the adrenaline rush that comes in such scenario, she is not bad-tempered or mean-spirited to be around in general. If she has no problem with the cat she is with she can be fun and sweet.
She has always had to fight to get to the top and being up there is something Indigo has grown accustomed to. She adores being in the spotlight and the attention it brings and she loves the feeling of being on top, of being in control. Unsurprisingly, she hates when others try to tell her what to do and will almost never do what is asked of her unless it was asked by a very close friend. She is a daring little beast, constantly pushing herself to see how far she can go.
To Indigo, life is nothing but a game, a challenge. One in which she desperately hopes she will come out on top. Risks mean nothing to her except for the promise of thrills. She loves exploring new places and trying new things because the best thing about somethign new is that you have know idea how it will turn out. Perhaps it could be the new best thing in the world. She constantly throws herself out there, fearlessy, unafraid to be judged by others.
It is because of this fearlessness that Indigo has always been able to get along easily with others-when she wants to. She is not afraid to make the first move or to start up a conversation with a random strange. In her mind, the best thing about a random stranger is that if things go well you can find yourself a friend and if things go badly you'll probably never see them again so who cares!
As confident as she appears on the outside, Indigo sometimes is unsure of herself and questions whether or not she should actually try and make something of her life. Whether or not she shoud eventually stop just playing around and actually do something. However this side of her only comes up rarely and when it does she doesn't let it show to others.
Though it would not seem likely with her personality, Indigo enjoys being alone. That's not to say she prefers it over being in the company of others but it is something she doesn't mind and wouldn't be upset about. Usually. Sometimes she is lonely and bored but depending on where she is and how much has been going on her life, Indigo sometimes enjoys a bit of alone time, just to think- though she is firstly and foremost an extrovert.
