History: In the midst of summer, Sable was born as one in a litter of three. The male was the only of his gender in his feline family, though this was not the only trait that distinquished him from his mother and sisters. Whereas his siblings' coats were light shades, he retained an almost all black coat. But this dark appearance did not spread to his demeanor; Sable was an unsurprisingly curious kitten, poking into mischief quite often. Perhaps this was the reason he bonded so strongly with his human family's young son and only child, Will, as the two explored every nook and cranny in their neighborhood, particularly the ones that were not meant to be explored.
But in three months, their beloved and thoroughly explored neighborhood would have to be left behind, along with some of the family's pets. The human parents worked at a business that required constant moving and constant changes. And so Sable experienced his first change. Due to Will's stubborn insistence and nine-year old explanations (or fits), Sable was secured a place in the family's roster. However, the young male and his mother would have to watch as his two dear sisters were sent away to neighbors and family friends. But under the close watch of his mother and chin scratches Will soothed him with, Sable moved on.
The family's new home was in Nenbrook, a whole entirely unexplored and therefore exciting city. Sable, eager to get to know this place, pawed and mewed for Will to come and join him on this thrilling new quest. But his fellow explorer was already caught in the clutches of the beginning of a horrific adventure known as school. Along with this, Will was being signed up for human after-school activities, one of them being soccer. Despite all these required activities, Will still spent most of his home time with Sable. When the boy was reading or working on school assignments, the feline was curled up in the always welcoming lap.
But just because Sable was without an exploring partner did not mean he was going to quit exploring. In fact, this solo expedition granted him a new sort of freedom that was as heart-pounding as it was lonely. But Sable began to learn to relish this, becoming more of the independent creature cats are often seen to be whenever he slipped out the house's cat-doors.
Months passed and the male was soon familiar with his surroundings. However, he was a cautious kitty, making sure not to wander too far from his family. But as summer swung back around and the days grew longer, his time in Nenbrook grew shorter. Once more it was time for the family to move. Things were already being packed as the moving date was only a few weeks away. The feline decided that it was then the proper time to step outside the self-set boundaries, for soon his night-prowls in this city would have to end.
That night, Sable slipped farther from home, winding through alleys and slinking about rooftops. Then, an unintentional event in this night expedition ocurred. The feline came in contact with people who tried to stuff him into a cage. They told him gently that they'd bring him to some sort of animal shelter, as they believed he was a stray. This was because Sable found collars restrictive and always managed to claw them off when forced to wear them. The cage they tried to force him into was also restrictive but worse--it was terrifying. Terrified of these strange people and their actions, Sable yowled and hissed and unsheathed his claws at them. He was able to slip out of their clutches and flee into the night, swallowed up by the maze of alleys and streets.
Soon he found that he was lost and in an area of the city he had never even glimpsed before. His wanderings spanned days and then weeks and when he finally stumbled home he found that the promises of a warm lap and familiar voices were gone. They had moved, unable to postpone their flight any longer. And so Sable found that he was suddenly and utterly alone.
After lingering by his former empty house for a miserable week. Sable finally moved on, heading to the Old Road in hopes of finding a new home.
Personality: In general, Sable is a withdrawn cat, not fond of reaching out to those not familiar. He values having solitary time to think and reflect, finding silence peaceful. But to continue to be alone without some familiar figure to turn to is a thought that terrifies him. Due to this, he can be pressed to reach out to someone he thinks might be of comfort.
At sudden, unexpected movements or sounds, Sable is prone to bolting. By nature and also due to his almost claustrophobic dislike of anything physically restrictive, he is considered skittish and somewhat lacking in confidence. However, this trait has only become so prominent since his encounter with the animal shelter people. In comparison to this, he is a bit more stable when with a close one as he feels more secure. When he feels secure, a bit of the old Sable shine through--ever curious and thrill-seeking. His curiosity can also draw him back to places that he might have just recently fled from, just to investigate.
Sable, once attached to something, finds it hard to let go. Even upon having "officially moved on", he dwells on the attachments frequently. When feeling particularly down, he slips away to his old home, as he finds the familiar sight somewhat comforting.
He regards humans with a neutral view; Sable, on rare occasions, might approach them during the day. At night, however, he strictly avoids them. This cat is, in general, friendlier towards human children as they remind him of his long-gone Will and occasionally saunters up for some attention. But he never stays for long. To cats he does not know or is first meeting, Sable is generally polite.
When irritable, Sable is prone to making sarcastic remarks. He is also known for adding such remarks when speaking to someone of familiarity, though he doesn't usually intend much harm. Likewise, he can be irritated quickly, but he doesn't hold grudges or keep a temper half as long as the normal cat. Due to this, he doesn't get too caught up in emotions like anger or resentment that might affect his decisions. However, it is a whole different matter when his skittish nerves kick in.
In short, Sable is a shy feline that tends to keep to himself at first glance. But once known a bit better, he can prove to be quite a curious cat with a tendency to make remarks he doesn't always mean.
