History: On January 7th, the year 2007, a small golden pelted tabby tom was born. He was a frisky, sturdy little fellow who enjoyed rolling in the cedar chips his owners put in their potted plants. The scent clung to the tom's coat and so his mother affectionately dubbed him Cedar.Cedar enjoyed life with his mother and sister, Fern, until he was 6 weeks old. In February he was bought by a couple. Already distraught from his sister leaving him, Cedar had a hard time adjusting to apartment life. The young hated the smell of his litter and would ofter spray furniture. His owners were often frustrated by his behavior and tried everything to stop it; from spraying the poor confused cat with a water bottle to even smacking him on the rump. Cedar's life was especially hard when the master of the house came home one day with strong smelling breath. The man noticed that the cat had sprayed the curtain again and he flew into a rage. The male upright-walker hurled objects at the tabby and even chased him around the house. The female always intervened when this occurred and the apartment would be filled with yelling and arguing. Finally the queen of the house decided to let herself bear young.Cedar thought that she did it to keep her mate and force him to change his habits of drinking the strong scented liquid. This plan seemed to work for awhile, the owners seemed less aggressive and rarely hit him. The tom started to spray less and use the hated litter box. Cedar even started warming up to his owners and they in turn gave him affection. This lasted until the couple read a news article about a jealous cat clawing a newborn infant. The golden tabby noticed his people seemed even more aggressive than before and eyed him with fright. Cedar couldn't handle the strain and tension in the air and resumed his habit of urinating outside of his litter box.The couple grew increasingly frustrated and the male resumed his beatings and drinking habits. The upright walker, while in his drunken haze, managed to corner the kitten and he shoved the young tom into a cat carrier and drove off into the country side. And, as some owners do when they can't handle a pet, he abandoned the cat, tossing the cage out of the moving truck. Cedar was lucky that the crate cracked open and he could escape.
Personality: Cedar values family over everything else. After the initially shock of being abandoned, hunger shaped him into a selfish beast. He only thinks of himself and values his own life over other cats'. He tries to act tough to scare away rivals, but if they don't fall for his bluff, he runs away like the coward he is. When other cats aren't around, he can be very timid and flinches at every sudden movement. He has a severe phobia of falling objects and gets startled very easily. For this reason, he is a very poor hunter and is often hungry which makes him irritable. When he doesn't succeed in catching wild game, he scavenges the garbage of the town or tries his luck on the plump barn mice. Also, being a house cat most of his life doesn't really help him survive and his social skills are lacking due to this isolation. Cedar also deals with an intense fear of human males, due to his past abuse.Cedar hates himself for being a coward and hopes to one day be able to protect his future mate. He believes he'll never find a cat willing to put up with him and often worries about the future. He is very self conscious around other cats, even though he puts on a facade of fierceness. The poor tom has a urinary disorder that frequently causes him humiliation. When he is excited or scared, he'll urinate uncontrollably. The young tom has a hard time adjusting to change. Any adjustment in routine causes him stress and discomfort.Cedar needs order and structure to keep himself calm and hold his frazzled life together.Cedar has a very hard time in believing and trusting in others and himself. He strives to one day change himself for the better. He prefers to keep in solitude so he doesn't embarrass himself in front of other cats. He resents the forest cats for their rough nature and is envious of their hunting skills and avoids them if he can. Cedar often tries to find faults in other cats to comfort himself and left his spirits. When life hands him the short side of the stick he retaliates and blames his hunger and bitterness on the cats around him. Cedar often reflects on the past and compares his new life with it. He always thinks about his sister Fern and longs to see her again.
