History: Basil was born to Tigerlilly and Sage Steelbloom as a show and breeding cat. He had 4 brothers and sisters and out of all of them Basil was the one chosen to continue their line. You see, Basil’s lineage dated back to the early 17th century where the pure bred Siamese were owned by kings and queens across the nation, where they were linebred and inbred to keep the pure lines. Basil’s humans were dedicated to keeping their lines clean, and because of that only one kitten from each litter born was not spayed or neutered, Basil was the one chosen. The young Siamese was trained to be a show cat, and he was treated as a king while he was growing up. His parents, however, didn’t love him or each other, as they were force bred to keep the lineage clean, giving Basil a slowly boiling hate for the humans that looked after him.
By the time the young kitten was one year he had won several ribbons for best in show and lead a happy, pampered life. However it was at this time that his humans decided it was time to continue his lineage and paired him with a female. Refusing to do what his parents had done to him another side of Basil showed for the first time. Attacking the humans Basil ran from his home and into the city, getting as far away from those humans as he possibly could.
Basil made a surprisingly fast adaptation to feral cat life, and had made his way to a small town not too far from his home city. Though a sweet cat, Basil showed only the feral side of himself to the humans, hissing and spitting at any that tried to get too close to him. But even so, Basil was liked by a few of the townspeople whom fed him and cared for him in a way that didn’t invade his personal space. Basil lived a moderate life on the streets until he was caught by the local humane society, on request of some of the people that lived near where Basil had taken refuge.
Basil didn’t take kindly to being trapped in a cage and did more then his share of yowling to annoy the humans. Whenever someone came to buy a cat Basil with his gorgeous pure-bred look was always on the list of possibilities, but once they got a taste of the males hostile like personality he was left behind. Months went by and the Siamese began to calm down, though he still didn’t allow humans to touch him or get too close. One day, the manager of the humane society came to the front of Basil’s cage, and though the cat didn’t know what the humans were saying, he knew something bad was going to happen. “We’re going to have to put this one down, he’s too hostile to give to a new home” The human spoke and Basil hissed in protest as gloved hands grabbed for him.
However, before the man got him to the table, a woman stopped him, saying she would take Basil home with her and try to readapt him to humans. So Basil was put into a medical induced sleep, put in a cage and loaded into the woman’s car. The two drove for some time before the woman stopped on the side of the old road and got out, carefully laying Basil out in the grass. “You’re far too wild to be kept by a human… You’ll have a good home here” She spoke softly before getting in her car and driving off, leaving Basil behind to live the next chapter of his life.
Personality: Basil’s history has caused the male to acquire a very… Explosive, split personality. On a normal occasion Basil is a sweet, kind and helpful cat, he will put himself aside for another he doesn’t even know and makes a point of coming across as kind as possible. Basil is charming romantic with both males and females and a bit of a show off, liking to use what he learned from the humans to his advantage and sometimes acts like a know-it-all, though he doesn’t try too. Basil is definitely what you’d call a “pretty boy”, feminine, even, because of the pampering in his past. He doesn’t like to get dirty and prefers to keep his pelt clean; you could say he has a miner case of Mysophobia even, but he does make exceptions.
Unlike most cats, Basil actually enjoys water and doesn’t mind taking a swim every now and then, though he doesn’t really enjoy the ‘drowned rat’ look he gets afterwards. With kittens Basil is a bit skittish and has a tendency to treat them like fragile pieces of furniture. Always telling them to be careful and just wanting them to sit in one spot so he doesn’t need to worry about them, especially if he’s been put in charge. Though Basil isn’t always the first one to approach another he does enjoy doing so as he isn’t the shy type. Despite his laid back and gentle personality Basil really is a good hunter and fighter, though they aren’t his most favorite activities in the world, he will do so if/when necessary. Now, you might think that’s all well and good, but what happens when Basil becomes angry? Now, that’s a whole other side of the same book…
Though Basil is generally hard to anger, like anyone else, he does have things that will push him over the edge, those things consist of other’s being rude to himself or another, talk of his past or humans and dogs. When Basil does finally snap his personality changes drastically, doing an almost complete flip, he turns into a cat no one wants to deal with. When Basil is angered he becomes a ruthless fighter and is quick to strike out at others. He can even become blinded to the point where he doesn’t recognize the difference between his friends and his foes, which can be a problem. Though, he does generally have enough sense to know when to get out of the situation before that happens.
After one of his breakdowns Basil tends to become highly depressed –even suicidal in some cases- for no reason and prefers to be alone, as he’s quick to snap out of anger. He becomes an entirely different cat during these times, which can last from a few hours up to a couple of weeks. He’s reserved and quiet and defiantly not the most pleasant to be around. It’s because of his split personality that Basil is deeply afraid of relationships of any kind, and though he’s a sweet, charming cat, he has it stuck in his head that he’s going to be alone for the rest of his life.
“You don’t have to pity me, I don’t need anyone, I don’t mind being alone, because that’s my fate
