Name: Rufus Slymouth Gender: Male Date of Birth: February 26th, 2005 Height: 29cm from paws to shoulders Sexual Preference: Straight Status: Not neutered
Coat Color: Black Coat Pattern: White splotch Eye Color: Green Fur Length: Long Appearance Extra: The white splotch on his mouth makes a noticeable heart-shape with his nose; Rufus has little black furry tips on his ears, but you’d only see them if you were up close.
History: Rufus isn’t one for the street life. He’s been pampered his whole life, and never once realized it ntil he was kicked out to the Old Road.
His original owner, a nice young woman married to a man that Rufus was not fond of, treated him nicely and loved him like he was a child to her. It was something like that, anyway, because she couldn’t have children due to the advanced stage of an illness that she had. When that illness went a stage further, the woman died, leaving her husband in what was eternal grief, it seemed. Finally, after just a month, the man decided that he couldn’t live with Rufus, as he was a constant reminder of the wife that he no longer had to be around him, and Rufus just wouldn’t warm up to him. So, after a long, bumpy car ride, the fat cat was given the boot.
But, being given the boot was nothing he hadn't experienced before, it had just been a long time since his last, well, boot. He was born in a trailer park to a black and white tuxedo and a gray, white-splotched tabby, and immediately he was set apart from the litter. His fur wasn't stark black like the tuxedo daddy, but rather an extremely dark gray tabby that most would mistake for black anyway. The owners of the two cats and litter took care of them the best that they could, but a careless, big-boned child stepped on Rufus in kittenhood, and for about a month, Rufus stayed beside his mother and didn't move or say a peep. When people came to buy the kittens, they overlooked him, worrying that he'd always be stuck to his mother, and that he was too old of a kitten to still be nursing.
His back finally stopped hurting, though, and he was given the boot then, told to "go on and git". His mother, as dry, surly, and unattached as he was now, didn't really care to follow him or make sure he was okay, and stayed inside as she was told. Being shunned at every trailor door in the area, though, Rufus had nowhere else to go on and git to. It wasn't until the birthday of a relative that he was finally welcomed into loving arms.
The niece of the man and woman with the clumsy child in the trailor came down for a visit, as it was her birthday and she knew that there were kittens around. Or at least that there used to be kittens. The people didn't have the heart to tell her that they didn't save one for her, and very conveniently, Rufus showed up at the doorstep, needing a bite to eat.
"There's the last one! You want him? Look, he's got pretty fur!"
It was love at first sight. The petite little niece took Rufus home that day, and he experienced her life as she grew up into a young lady and married, leaving him quite a bit more jealous than he expected. He was the only one that she needed, after all! She didn't need one of these men...!
Because it was very quickly that he realized how much he missed his petite little owner after his boot, out of love he decided to keep the name that she had called him instead of find a new one for his new life in the wild. He would always be “Rufus” in his heart.
Personality: As stated before, Rufus not one for street life. He’s a massive cat, in height, weight, and stature, and is used to having food in front of his face 100% of the time, and being able to whine about it if it’s not. He still hasn’t gotten used to not whining about things, so as big and menacing as he may seem, he’s nothing but a crybaby.
He has despised almost every cat he’s ever met, because Rufus is quite the jealous type. He’s been taunted too many times not only about his sluggish size and his fat, but because he’s never quick enough to mark his territory. He constantly feels as though he’s walking on someone else’s land, and he’s obligated to move along quickly, so he’s also scaredy around other cats for fear of being told to go away. Very frightened of confrontation, Rufus will hide if he knows another cat is on the way, but otherwise stretch out as much as he can and occupy all the space he can with his fat rump. He’s very proud of it, by the way.
Dogs, however, Rufus is not afraid of. In nine cases out of ten, the dog in question has been nothing but a dope, and has done nothing wrong but poke his nose around to get a good sniff, and Rufus discovered that if the dog is obedient enough to whoever it belongs to, a quick swipe across that invasive nose will cue whimpering and prompt leaving alone. So, Rufus prefers the company of them much more than his own kind. You could say that it’s a boost to his self-esteem, not being around other posh and primp felines.
There was only one human that Rufus ever cared for, and she’s gone. So, no human will ever again have the satisfaction of hearing him purr, having him rub up against their legs, or huddling up next to them at bedtime. Nope. Even though he does have a soft spot for processed and manufactured cat crunchies and soggy salmon from the can.
Birds and rats beware. Rufus has perfected his technique of the “yawn-and-lay”, and is a master at having a wing to munch on in the afternoon. Birds and rats think he’s nothing but a lazy cat who’s too fat to catch them, so they taunt him and skip around him until – whoops! – one gets too close. At other animals that he knows he can’t catch, he’ll growl at them. His growl is very ridiculous sounding, but don’t tell him that, because he can whine, too.
