"But she doesn't love me anymore! She has Ash. Why would she want me, Mr. Dump and Mate? All I was good for was to make Ash jealous and then make him love Indigo even more when she told her side of the story. Why would she want me? I was only a tool.[/i]" Her heart dropped like a stone when Stellar said that. The tom sat up a little straighter. Harbor's shoulders slumped. Things looked like they'd take this same old friggin song and dance, with the tears and even more sight of the poor tom's anguish. Taro seemed to be good with that. The tortoiseshell, on a normal day, rather have fought a grizzly bear. She needed to move, to breath, to think. Finally the tortoiseshell had decided "Nope. Our situations are too different. I'm nothing like him. We're not the same. Die empathy." And it followed command. Why she hadn't left yet Harbor was uncertain. And so seemed Taro for that matter. Or, she had seemed for awhile. It's just--she wanted to help him so badly! Whoa, where did that come from?! she thought to herself, unconsciously jerking her shoulders. Harbor checked herself. Indigo had rights, too, right? Ash had rights, too, right? She'd already decided that, right? No, no way. She didn't like this guy. He was a romantic idiot, right? Right...?
" They may be somewhere in the forest behind the town. We'll start at the river and go down. That should give us a wide enough range.[/i]" What--what was this relief thing, she asked herself after Harbor felt her shoulders relax... and quickly knot up again beneath her blackest patches streaked in sunset caramel. The world was beginning to spin out of control. I pity no one, she told herself again, and forced it to be true. It was true. Aside from herself of course, and No need to let it spread, she reminded herself yet again, no need to let things get complex here. Harbor was a hypocrite in saying this, of course. If I pity Stellar, I pity Indigo, then Ash, then the kits, then Taro, then--blablablablabla, right? Come on Harbor, get in your head. Thoroughly she checked over these thoughts. Yes, they fit. She felt them. Good.
Stellar nudged Taro's shoulder. "Thank you for taking care of me.[/i]" I have no friends, Harbor thought to herself, squaring her shoulders. She understood perfectly that--if she were lucky--a nod might come her way. Unapproachable. That's how she was and that's how she liked it, Harbor reminded herself. Besides, physical contact? No thanks. It was true that she didn't liked to be touched, ever. But... Then Stellar took a step closer. It was difficult for Harbor to stiffen--since she was normally so stiff anyways--but somehow she managed to do so in this moment. What is he doing? Her ears twitched to the back of her head, and forward again. A warning. Stellar--What is he--?! oh.--nudged her shoulder, just as he'd done Taro's. More gently, though. "Thank you, too." At least he was conscious of her discomfort. Still, though.
Harbor was shocked.
She hadn't even done anything this whole time. And she'd done her best to make sure she wasn't being very nice--as always. But this was so... sweet, made Harbor felt raw and exposed, like all her fur had been shaved and she stood there hairless, sphinx-like in the autumn, shivering. Literally. Only once, though, did a tremor overtake her body. That's why I hate being touched, she reminded herself wryly, It feels weird.
"Now. To the stream?[/i]" asked Stellar, and Harbor felt a swell rise in her chest, a little bit of... honest excitement, for once. "We can eat something on the way." The tortoiseshell's stomach growled. Great, more problems to deal with.
"Yes, we'll head off to the river at first, and we'll follow it all the way down to the forest. Hopefully by then we'd find them." said Taro as Harbor tried to decide how to react both to the nudge on her shoulder and her growling tummy. "Er... yea. Let's, uh, let's do that," she nodded supportively, and a bit awkwardly as well. "Or we can split up if you guys want, so we cover more ground. Make like a weird..." she thought for a moment, "Strangly noise or something when we've found them, or even send up whatever fowl are around to let the others know where we are." After she realized what she'd said, Harbor was surprised. Did she really want them to stay together after all that? She took in the sight of the two cats before her, Taro's brown pelt and Stellar's green eyes. Yes, his eyes. It dawned on her that... she really did want to stay. With her friends. Then remembering Taro, Harbor edited herself. Friend. And glary-freak-person-who-didn't-seem-to-like-her-very-much-like-ten-minutes-ago. Not a close friend, mind you, at least not yet--she might never ever see this kid again after today. However... an actual smile appeared on Harbor's tortie-lips, revealing pinky flesh beneath her fur.
(ooc: You're right, I think it'd be good for whoever to PM Ash and Indigo to meet us at the waterfall. So is this particular topic closed now?)
