Thump thump thump!
Summer made a great deal of noise when she ran, leaping up the side of the mountain. She had come to a rather rocky area, and she had happened to come across an injured squirrel while Winter was in control so the kitten was already full. Despite her instant protests, the cat scarfed it down hungrily without even responding.
Ah, sorry about that, Summer.
In response, the happy kitten had taken over as she pounded up the side of the mountain. She wasn't looking for anything in particular, maybe just a bit of adventure. Summer loved exploring, but now she had become a little bit bored. It was twilight, and gradually becoming darker. Summer didn't like the night much, so it was around then that she would agree to let the other kitten have a turn.
Okay Winter, it's all yours!
She thought silently before letting her mind fall back a little. The brown tabby began to falter as it's knees buckled, but Winter quickly took charge before launching herself into control. Free, finally.
Grinning a smile that would scare a mouse half to death, she leaped up the side of the trail, a change of pace clearly distinguishable from that of Summer's. There wasn't a single noise radiating from her pawsteps, and she licked her lips in anticipation.
Summer, I see a cave up there. You feel like checking it out? It will probably be dark.
...Okay. It could be fun, after all. But don't let your control slip, because I won't take over.
You got it.
[/i][/u] From rock to rock the brown tabby pounced, swiftly. You could scarcely make her out in the coming dark, and the only tool for so was the bright half moon shining over head. Taking a few steps up some more, she came to a stop at a large cliff, where a large hollowed out area in the side had been carved. It was very deep; Winter couldn't see the end. Gingerly padding in, her night vision kicked in and she easily avoided stalactites jutting out from the floor. A small stream had trickled out of the side of the cave, but now it was practically a full out river, with small silver flashes making their way down the stream. The brown tabby watched them carefully with gleaming green eyes. Come on Winter, you're not even hungry. Leave it alone.
Fine.[/u] Lying down in the middle of the cave so she could see the entrance but still have room to maneuver if danger showed up, she shut her eyes, but she didn't sleep until Summer drifted back into mindset. That was one strange thing about Winter. She had never slept. She had never dreamed.[/blockquote]

Nest bounced his way up the mountains, over rocks and streams, and generally just being happy. He was having a bit of trouble breathing now, not used to a workout or anything like that, and having never been climbing like this before. It felt cooler up here, too. Nest though that was nice. Even though the sun shone down, it didn’t heat his fur like the way he really didn’t like. His darker tabby stripes were less distinct than usual from the mud he had climbed in (and eventually gotten stuck in) to escape the sun.
This place was perfect. So many other nice cats around, though he wasn’t sure if they were all nice, having only met two. But those two had been young like him and very nice. And here was perfect. No scary humans and their machines or nasty smell or noise. Just space and peace. And cold!
In Nest’s weird opinion, the only thing that could make this place even more perfect would be a thunderstorm. A nice big one, where every lightning bolt would be huge and bright, and every bit of thunder would shake the ground and be so loud it almost hurt… and tons of rain. Nice cold rain, whipped about by strong wind. That would make everything perfect.
But the world isn’t perfect… Nest thought as he started to slow down, his muscles pushed nearly to their limit. He hadn’t felt any rain yet though. Which meant he would probably have to lick all the dirt out of his fur himself. And then a nice nap. Yes, a nice long one. And not in the sun, though. That would roast him alive.
Peering ahead, Nest smiled. He thought that he could see a cave ahead. Excellent! He decided he could push himself a little further to reach it, bounding up to it happily, until he skidded right through the entrance, sending some pebbles flying. Thoughts of dangerous things that might be in the cave were far from his mind.

This life will leave you stressed out, left out, with your neck out, ain’t nothing changed.
The sound of pawsteps from the mountain woke Summer up immediately, and she quickly let Winter take oevr so she could check out the danger. It really was dark in the cave, but it also had a certain coziness to it, so she could expect to find others flocking to it.
Winter shot out from behind the rock she was sitting on and began running through the cave, her paws making no sound. Finally coming out onto what was almost like a balcony of the cave where the moonlight lit up the silver rock, she gently stepped out of the cave and into the glow of the night. The stars were a mass of shimmering lights in the night sky, so beautiful you could gape at it all night until the sun took it's shift. then you could beginning gaping at the sunrise, and after that, the beautiful cloudless day.
She was silent as she strode over to the edge of the balcony, looking down onto the cliffside. There, a brown tabby was leaping up from rock to rock, towards the cave. Winter tensed, ready to attack if a threat was proceeded. then she saw he was smiling.
He has beautiful eyes.
Summer commented from inside her head, and Winter groaned.
Do we really have to go and talk to him? I'm so tired, and you have to run up and be all friendly with every cat you meet...
Quiet, Winter, and let me go and say hi!
She pouted, and Winter sighed.
Ugh. Well we don't know that he's not going to come over here and start a riot, so let me see if he comes to us first. then I'll determine if he's particularly hostil-
'Hi! Summer called from the top of the cliff to the kitten making his way up, grinning goofily. Her tail was swinging from side to side like a puppy's, and her head was titlted to the side as she looked down.
Summer! Don't just push me out like that! I wasn't even done talking!!
Winter fumed, but the other kitten ignored her before lifting a paw in a human-like wave. She couldn't keep her balance though, and ended up falling down onto her face. Winter laughed inside her head, and Summer glared at her.
'Hurry up, you take too long! I'm gonna leave if you don't come sooooon!!' Summer called out to the kitten below her, smiling as she teased him playfully. Now she sat down and waited for him to make it to the top.
Real life, so we deal right, but it feels like its something strange

Nest had been concentrating completely on his next jump. So when the voice of another cat came out of nowhere (for him) he was surprised. He was also in mid-jump. Trying to look up towards where the voice was coming from, and land at the same time turned out not to be such a good idea. Only his front paws hit the rock he'd been aiming for, and they were quick to slide off as is back paws scrabbled at a rock to steep and smooth to let him pull himself.
The fall landed him in a small gully in the mountainside. No, hey wait up! He called out. He thought that he'd seen another kitten out there, in the seconds before he crashed. Maybe they'd be fun to play with! He couldn't see anything out of the gully not. He picked up his paws and tried to pull himself out of the ditch, but couldn't get a good grip. Uh oh. he thought to himself. The gully around him went high up over his head, about two tail lengths. Nest realized he was lucky he hadn't hurt himself in landing.
Was that what he was going to keep doing around here? Getting stuck in things. First mud, next to the old road, and now this. The rocks leading up out of this were all smooth and steep like the one he'd first tried on. And the gaps between the rocks were to thin to get a good pawhold. Peering around him, he wondered if somehow this place was man-made. It seemed like it could be. So smooth and hard to get out of. But what would human do with a ditch-thing up here? The gully went on a ways, and he couldn't see the ends, but it was dark and shadowy in those directions, with a few places where rock jutted out over it, making it a lot more like a tunnel. For the first time, Nest realized there were dangers to being around here.
Hey, um... I think I'm stuck! He called out, hoping the other cat who had called out to him would help him. Though he wasn't sure how they would be able to do that. Maybe just someone to talk to and know he was there would be nice. But Nest felt his old nervousness about talking to cats he didn't know return in a flash.
Admin's Note on November 27th: This thread is being archived due to inactivity, sorry. We'll say that Summer and Nest play around a bit more and have some fun.
