The rain poured down outside the car. But Laurel snuggled deeper into the blankets in her box. She was not the hugest fan of rain, though water wasn't so bad. It's not that she despised water; she just preferred to be dry.
The human stopped the car and unlatched the cat box's door. Laurel tentatively slunk out, looking to her left and to her right. The human gently massaged the tiny cat's head, rubbing the skin between her ears. I'm so sorry about this, girl... I just can't handle it anymore. The door to Laurel's side opened.
The rain pounded the street below, stray droplets bouncing into the car off the handle or the road. Laurel recoiled slightly, wanting to stay dry. She looked to the human, questioning his judgement. This would ruin the car's upholstery. The human hated the car being damaged.
Suddenly, Laurel found herself on the ground. She looked up, expecting to see her human, but all she saw was cloudy nighttime sky with raindrops falling down. A car engine roared to life near her, speeding away. Laurel stood in shock, not quite grasping what had just happened.
Was she alone? Had she just been abandoned? Laurel didn't want to think so, but, it seemed it had. She was on her own. She was on her way. She needed a friend, someone to help fill the echo of the clouds' tears all around.
