Hurry up Summer, I'm starved! Lemme take over for awhile...
Summer shook her head, annoyed at the other voice in her head.
'For the last time Winter, no, it's my turn and we'll get there eventually.'
Summer had always been a strange cat, but then again, she had never truly been alone in her life, either. The other mind that accompanied her inside of her body often pestered her for a turn in control, and even though it was completely preposterous, the other cat had become like a sister to her rather than a sure sign that the little kitten was insane. Which she most certainly was not.
She didn't really know where she was going, she just wanted to shut the other cat up. It had been a few days since she had separated from Dapple, and she didn't know the forest too well by herself. Summer had no clue where she was planning on finding food before a thought popped into her head.
Dapple had told her that she used to live on a farm with another cat by the name of Ruby or something, and there were always mice and chickens, which were exceptionally stupid. And the feathers could be
fun to play with.
'Yay, we can to the farm and chase the little birds! I love feathers!'
Inside her head, Winter rolled her eyes. It was tiring when her sister was in charge, because the kitten was slightly simple-minded. She almost laughed out loud; even though both kittens were the same age, technically the same person, they were polar opposites. Hence the nickname 'Winter'. But she was very fond of her other half, evil as she was. It was true, once this was all over, Winter fantasized about taking over Nenbrook. But some dreams never come true. In this case, it's possible that that was a good thing.
'And I love mice, too, yum! Birds are fun!'
Summer sprinted ahead in no particular direction, tripping twice and getting back up to continue bounding across the road. The kitten was the definition of moody considering her other side, but it wasn't for this reason that she was so hard to overlook. The kitten was so innocent- such a baby. And how can you ignore a snoring, screaming, laughing baby?
It is not easy.

The little grey kitten was sitting at the edge of the road, watching everything. Everything and nothing. Cars whizzing by, wind stirring the trees. Everything and nothing. He could smell the acrid tang that the cars left in their wake, that there had been cats here before, but they weren't here now. Everything and nothing. The grandmother had driven a gray-silver car, had put him on this old road in the middle of the night, to his confusion. Everything and nothing. The sun had risen, there had been an increase in cars for a while, and then the traffic had slowed again. Everything and nothing. So, he sat there quietly, waiting for something. For everything, for nothing.
A blue truck zoomed by, close to the shoulder. Had the kitten been on the shoulder, he probably would have been knocked over by the wind the came off of it. However, he had learned about windflow on speeding cars quite soon after being dropped off, and had retreated to the strip of grass between the road and the trees. Snakelike, the grey tail twitched, stirring the long, uncut grasses. Another sound. One ear tilted quickly, catching the sound, then reverted back to it former position- another car, this time on the opposite side of the road, going the other way. It was a little red sports car, speeding along much too fast to be safe. Frowning, putting his ears back, the kitten twitched his tail again. The red car sped past. He wasn't able to hear the soft rustle of the grass, only the loud, loud vrooming of the little red car. It made a small earthquake, then, disappeared. Like it never was.
Hazel eyes blinked, slowly, sleepily. The kitten hadn't had any sleep with the cars making so much noise, making the ground tremble beneath his feet. He was used to sleeping a lot, having naps every few hours. He hadn't even been able to nap on the car ride here- knowing he was moving, but not moving his paws always made him a bit nauseous. The little blue and white knew he would fall asleep sooner or latter, and would prefer to be away from this place when he did, but the changing river of the road kept him glued to the spot. Who knew what would come barreling down the road next?
A kitten. Another kitten. Leaf smiled, happy to see that he had company. Without knowing it himself, he had become lonely, sitting on this road. Standing up, he waved his tail in the air, trying to catch the other kitten's attention. A tabby, it looked like. Like his mother, Fern. Jennyanydots, the proffessor had called her, like the nice gumbie from CATS. He smiled again, remembering his early kittenhood. Then he laughed at himself. He was still a kitten, after all. That had just been before, this was now. With this other kitten, this road, the rustling grass, and even the speeding cars. He wasn't sure if he liked the cars, the big monsters, but they did seem to get you where you were going fast. Very fast. And the tabby kitten looked nice, romping about like she was.

ooc: Pretend I'm on the right account
Tumbled over, Summer came to a stop when she noticed another cat's hazel daze resting on her. She quickly stood up and shook herself before bounding over, happy to make new friends. She was practically a four year old, in human terms.
'Hi!'
She chirped in a happy tone, smiling broadly. Green eyes peered at him expectantly, waiting for his reply until she was interrupted by her near-twin.
What are you doing, approaching a total stranger? I thought we were supposed to be looking for food!
Well, maybe he knows where to find some that isn't so far away!
The sun was high in the sky, and there wasn't a cloud in sight. A beautiful day for a-
'Picnic!'
She cried out in revelation. There was a small, classic red and white checker blanket resting silently under a tree not far from where they were sitting, and she quickly pounced over, sitting down comfortably before sniffing the large wicker basket accompanying it. Realizing that she had just voiced her thoughts loudly, her fur began to warm up. The other cat must think she was weird. Not that she wasn't.
'Sorry... My name's Summer, by the way. I was just thinking... Ah, never mind. How about you, whats you name?'
The brown tabby purred, quickly forgetting her embarrassment. If there was one other thing that Summer was besides enthusiastic and totally crazed, it was resilient.
Prodding the basket again with her paw, the top flung over revealing the remains of hardly-touched human meal consisting of a thermos of tee, a few gingerbread cookies and some finger sandwiches.
Yummy! I don't think the humans are coming back though Winter, I can hardly smell them. Good for us that we found lunch so quickly, but they left all their remains here as litter! Tsk tsk.
Hurry up and eat, crazed kitten. I'm hungry, and so are you. But after lunch, it's my turn in control.
'Kay.
Biting down on one of the sandwiches, she quickly stuffed one down to keep Winter from complaining again. Her paws worked silently around the edges of the thermos, and soon her teeth joined in as she finally got the lid off before lapping up a few warm sips. It was as good as she had imagined.
'So. How did you get here?'

He'd been traveling for almost a day, and it was amazingly unbelievable how the old dog managed to travel this far, yet, Shadow was strong. His tongue lolled from his jaws, tail swishing as he walked, he did not run, this would use most of his energy, and walking was quite comfortable for him. Those warm friendly brown eyes scanning the area, a smile actually planted on his maw, Shadow felt so refreshed in the weather, this was actually cooler with the occasional breeze brushing past.
It wasn't long that on his walk, Shadow began to feel the pain of exhaustion, his thirst for water increased, as well as the need for food. He had not eaten for almost two days, which was very bad for his age, Shadow seemed to ignore the feeling of pain and continue with his determination to get somewhere. Eventually he slowed down, his paws unable to continue, yet at that exact moment in time, his over powerful sensitive nose picked up the essence of feline aroma within the air, his ears perked slightly.
There was no sound at first, before a large car came zooming buy, his eyes wide before as fast as he could, darted from the center of the road, and managing to make it to the other side with little impact of the giant contraption against his tail, but nothing majer. His muscles tensed and ached deeply after that giant amount of movement, his poor old bones and body wasn't as it used to be, yet what was Shadow to say for the natural elements of life? He took a deep breath, just realizing he just escaped with his life and was quite satisfied.
Picking up the scent once again, his eyes darted around before there, within the grass, right on, what it seemed to be, a bright blanket and a picnic basket. Food? FOOD! He was quite relieved, but noticed shortly after two cats aside it, but he would not be a bother then for the food, if they desired it, he would not mind, survival of the fittest. He made his way over ever so slowly, unable to stand barely before finally, he approached and amazingly, without another word, rested himself down softly on the grass.
He lay there relaxed with a friendly smile and gesture to the cats, not wanting to scare them. "Hey..." his warm friendly voice, no threat intended within his tone except for a charming warm personality. "... I wont hurt you my friends." his tail managing to sway before he lay his head down on his forepaws as he watched both cats with pleasure and a friend attitude. Shadow would never hurt a living soul, and ESPECIALLY not cats, he just hoped to get the message across to them with his generic greetings.
He hoped....

The tabby kitten bounded over to Leaf, and he smiled, pushing his whiskers forward and wagging his tail again. His silent hello- he hoped she would understand, and not think he was too snobby to talk to her. He hadn't seen many cats for a while, because the couple hadn't liked to let him outside, and this one seemed nice enough, although maybe a tad more playful than what Leaf was completely comfortable with. She's like Otter, he realized, suddenly. She was always on the move, always bounding from one thing to the next, jumping from one thought to the other, just like his only brother. If he could have, he would have purred, happy that he had found a cat like one of his siblings. Unfortunately, the cat's vocal box is needed to purr [actually, that's only a theory, but I'm gonna go with it], and as Leaf's vocal box didn't work, he was stuck with just sitting there, wagging his tail happily, and smiling. He was a bit depressed by that fact, though, truth to tell. To not even be able to do something so simple as purr- what kind of cat couldn't purr?
'Picnic!' [/b] the other kitten exclaimed suddenly, startling Leaf. He jumped slightly, flicking his ears back to the road behind him now, but not laying them flat against his skull, just trying to get the walls of his ears to deflect the sound already echoing inside them. She was so loud. Again, like Otter. He smiled, tilting his ears forward again, and remembered how Otter had often exclaimed something seemingly random before streaking off to another room. And she was right, after all- there was a picnic blanket not far away, with a picnic basket to compliment. Mentally frowning at the litter- but smiling at the thought of food- he trotted forward, stepping onto the checkered blanket. It felt strange, as he could still feel the grass underneath the weathered cloth. Raising his paws high, he lengthened his steps as far as he could, walking strangely, but not feeling the odd, covered grass as much. 'Sorry... My name's Summer, by the way.'[/i] Leaf smiled. So her name is Summer. It was fitting, with her being so warm and happy. 'I was just thinking... Ah, never mind. How about you, whats you name?'[/i] Oh. His name? He needed to introduce himself, of course. He had never thought about that- his parents and siblings had already known his name, and he hadn't met any other cats when he was with the couple. That's very smart, Leaf. No, don't think that- think of something to do. He started feeling the heat rise in his cheeks- how was he going to 'say' his name? He looked around and spotted a few leaves on the ground, having floated down from the trees when a gust of wind hit at sometime or the other. That's it! While Summer was pawing and prodding at the basket, he ran over and grabbed a leaf, then trotted back, tail wagging wildly, whiskers pushed forward with pride. This was the first 'talking' he had figured out without the help of his mother- but would it work? Well, first he had to get her attention. Cursing his eternal silence, he sat and dropped the leaf, pawing at it. Then he caught a scent. Is that-- Dog. Yes, it was dog. A huge dog, more than three times the little blue's size. Instinctively, Leaf's hackles rose, and he backed up a step, the little leaf and introductions forgotten. He had seen dogs before, but they hadn't been this big. They been little Spaniels, out for a walk with their owners- he had seen them through the windows of the couple's house. This dog- this dog was HUGE. His mother had warned him about dogs- some were nice, mainly the pet dogs, and others, the feral ones, wouldn't hesitate to eat a cat. This one looked like a feral, but he didn't seem that menacing. In fact, he seemed friendly, walking up slow like that. He walked up, almost to them, and Leaf didn't flee. He backed up another step, not caring about how strange feeling the blanket was. Then the giant golden dog laid down, and spoke to them. 'Hey...'[/i] he said, kindly. 'I won't hurt you, my friends.'[/i] And that cinched it for the little kitten. The mute couldn't think bad of someone who said that in such nice tones. He stepped up again, and walked over to the old dog, though instinctively stayed out of lunging reach, and wagged his long, snakelike tail in response to the slow swaying of the dog's own bushy tail. Hello, mister dog.[/blockquote]

The gray tom had bounded off as she pulled the top of the thermos, and came back carrying a leaf. She smiled.
'Do you want to play with that?'
She asked mischievously, grinning. But the hazel-eyed cat was pawing at the leaf in a different way than playfulness, and his eyes reflected a sort of urgency, as if he was desperately trying to get her to understand. She recalled her previous question...What's your name? And suddenly she understood.
'Oh! Your name is Leaf? Silly, you could have just told me.'
She said, her tail flicking over his ear. Summer was the type of cat that never seemed to notice other cat's space. Either that or she just didn't care. But it hadn't been playfulness in his eyes, she realized. Perhaps he couldn't...
'Leaf, can't you speak?'
She asked curiously. No concern, sympathy, annoyance, just genuine curiosity. At this moment, the scent of dog seemed to hit her nose for the first time, and immediately she put up her guard.
Winter!
I'm on it.
The next second Winter opened her eyes to find herself in the brown tabby's pelt, hackles raised at signs of danger. Summer wasn't much of a fighter, and she was also a bit of a ''fraidy cat', so at times where possible danger approached, Winter would take over and make sure everything was alright.
Suddenly, a large dog was spotted on the horizon, slowly trotting into view. Winter didn't sense any hostility, but she still stayed where she was, standing her ground. He sat down, quickly establishing that he didn't plan on causing trouble, so she lay back down, tail lashing. Leaf had already sat down at a face distance, and was smiling at the newcomer. She scowled. A dog was a dog, and that was that. But the dog still didn't get up, so Summer began asking if she could come back again. Winter sighed.
Fine, you can come back, but as soon as you're finished lunch...I'm serious. You know how boring it gets in there.
[/u] She reminded the young kitten, and Summer mentally nodded. The switch was swift, and soon Summer was back to looking at the gray tom. 'Well, if you can't speak, we'll just have to find another way for you to communicate!'She told him happily, lifting one paw. She turned it to the left, then the right, then the left again. 'How about, when Leaf makes this gesture, it means there's danger?' She spoke to Leaf and the dog, who she realized she still didn't know the name of. 'By the way, what's you name, Mr. Dog?Summer asked before resuming the lesson. She announced that flicking his right ear will be translated as saying yes, or agreeing to something, whereas flicking the left meant saying no, or disagreeing. It was also established that poking his mouth with his tail will mean that he's hungry, and tapping his foot three times meant danger. The figured out a few more before Summer pointedly yawned. 'My my, we haven't even eaten yet! Everyone, dig in!'She told them, stuffing down another finger sandwich before lapping up some more tea. Then she grabbed a cookie, tossing one over to Shadow. 'You too, big guy.' She told him, curling up on the blanket around the warm thermos. It was making her drowsy, so she shut her eyes and began to doze... ooc: Yeah, that was a long post! [/blockquote]

The first reaction was that from the gray kitten, and by the no speaking and tail wagging, Shadow understood from his intelligence that the poor thing could not speak, it was amazing how fast he picked up such deep details, yet Shadow had lived on earth for nine years of his life, and motions such as this were a way of eagerness to show someone that they could not speak or something was wrong, and Shadow understood quite easily. 'Well, if you can't speak, we'll just have to find another way for you to communicate!' and as soon as the other kitten had spoken, Shadow was quite proud of that confirmation.
'How about, when Leaf makes this gesture, it means there's danger?' Shadow studied the movements of the other kitten, and kept a warm smile as he nodded in agreement with thoughts of new communication techniques for 'Leaf' as it so seemed to be. Leaf sounded like a cute name, and as well, seemed like a very easy name as it referred to a leaf, and Shadow knew then that the kitten had probably patted to a leaf, in which there was one aside them. 'By the way, what's you name, Mr. Dog?' He gasped a little, then realizing he had not even introduced himself.
His ears perked up before he cleared his throat. "My name is Shadow." He gave a light nod of his head. "and you are 'Leaf' my dear friend?" looking to the gray kitten, making sure that he was correct in anyway. Then he looked back to the other kitten. ".. and who might you be sweety?" His calm relaxed tone reassuring his such pure personality. 'My my, we haven't even eaten yet! Everyone, dig in!' As soon as the kitten referred to food, Shadow instantly paid attention. 'You too, big guy.' Shadow's warm smile was also in thanks as he took the cookie softly and ate it quite happily.
"Thank you." where his words before after finishing it quickly. His golden coat blowing slightly, as the golden giant stood slowly, panting as the old age had gotten the better of him. Others could easily tell this poor giant was old as from the gray hairs forming slowly around his muzzle as well as under his chin, but they did not bother him intentionally, rather he still did feel quite young, nine years was still considered young right? Shadow moved himself over to the basket before settling comfortably upon the blanket, tail wagging softly. With a paw, he gestured for the gray feline to sit aside him. "Please, join us friend."
Admin's Note on November 1st: This thread is being archived due to inactivity. We'll say that: -They talk a bit more -All feel fairly comfortable and friends-ish with each other
