History: Cadence was born to a Maine Coon father named Juno Goldeniris and a British Silver Tabby mother named Orchid. Thus, he has the exquisite markings of a tabby and the brilliant golden eyes and luxurious fur of a Maine Coon. He had three other siblings named Pisces ,Serene, and Tourmaline. From the time of their births, the four Goldeniris kittens were wealthy, sheltered and cosseted by both their owner and parents. They knew nothing about the outside world ( as they were raised strictly as housecats), and were naïve and ignorant to the point of hazard. They were never permitted to play outdoors like their kitten peers because their parents constantly fretted for their well -being. They never skipped a meal or a grooming session. Life was seemingly perfect in their sheltered, utopian world. Then one day, tragedy struck.
It had been another seamless day for Cadence and his siblings. They had awoken at just the right time by their mother’s gentle purring. They had eaten a lavish breakfast and were bathed and groomed by Hans, the butler. Afterwards, they had played a harmless game that they couldn’t say they enjoyed. Although the kittens were already three months old, they were never allowed to claw, bite, or wrestle like their peers. If they displayed any of those offensive behaviors they would receive an intense scolding from their furious parents.
All of the sudden, Cadence had caught a whiff of smoke from an unknown area. He wasn’t the only one. His family had raised their noses to the air and tried to locate the source of the smoke. They were not successful. Almost immediately, the large residence had been completely afire. Flames erupted from seemingly everywhere and smoke had filled their eyes and lungs. Crackling pieces of the ceiling had fallen at their feet and debris had struck their faces. It was an early glimpse of hell.
Then, Cadence saw an opening. He didn’t know what he was doing. One moment, he had stood paralyzed- not knowing where his family was and waiting for the end. The next, he had run for his life- tears streaming down his cheeks and lungs filling with smoke. Never once, had Cadence looked back. Never once had he the chance. He ran and ran and ran. He ran out the building, but didn’t stop there. Cadence had cared little where his blistered paws took him. His family, home, life and everything he had ever known was gone. He had almost wished that had died in the burning building himself. His life was ruined.
After the disastrous misfortune, Cadence discovered the cruel realities of the world. He encountered the filthy and half-starved homeless men who chased him away and even attempted to hurt him at times. He encountered the adolescent boy who gave him a severe beating for no apparent reason. He encountered the animal officers who prosecuted cats and attempted to put them into places called pounds. He later learned what pounds were from an elderly cat who died the next day. Cats were relocated into unlivable prisons and if no human wanted them after a week, they were brutally executed. It was a sickening ordeal. Finally, it all came to young Cadence. Human arsonists were also responsible for setting his home on fire and killing his loved ones. Humans were sick, detestable creatures. Henceforth, Cadence mistrusted all humans and survived as best as a lone cat could in a large, merciless city. Times were difficult, but he soon gained sufficient “street smarts” and is struggling to keep his life to this day.
Personality: Cadence Goldeniris is a pessimistic tom who detests and distrusts all humans. He views them as little more than sadistic, ignorant, and blood-thirsty savages. This is mainly due to the fact that humans were responsible for terminating the lives of his beloved parents and siblings. When encountered with humans, his response is never friendly.
Cadence is usually a silent, stoic, and withdrawn character who debates within his mind whether life is worth living or not. He is very passive and rarely displays his true emotions in any way. However, he experiences irregular bouts of depression that lead him fighting for his sanity. Cadence genuinely believes his life is filled with perpetual misery and sleeps constantly to ease the pain. When life becomes too great of a burden, Cadence resorts to self-harm. He has the destructive habit of leaping in front of vehicles as to attempt suicide. Fortunately, he is never quite successful, but continues to lead a dreadful life of pain and distress. Additionally, Cadence is very intelligent and somewhat prophetic. He can often sense danger in a remarkable manner and uses his cunning wit to survive. He tolerates stray kittens and frequently assists them, but is extremely fearful of making emotional bonds with anyone. After aiding a stray litter, he will often abandon them to ensure that he does not develop an attachment to them. Nonetheless, he has never experienced true love due to his fear of relationships and lack of genuine interest.
Despite his stern and emotionally withdrawn nature, Cadence knows that deep within him rests an intense yearning to love and be loved. He attempts to numb this wanting by spending most of his days in solitude and struggling to convince himself that he needs nothing more in his torturous life. This leaves him mentally exhausted and even more embittered. Though he rarely speaks, Cadence is often very sarcastic and intimidating towards other cats. This makes him hated by some and feared by many others. He is a despondent existence that plods through life in a meaningless fashion and awaits death.
