"Ughhhh, you guys go ahead...I'll be fine. Just want to ughhhh, explore the road some more."
Rowan blinked, mainly at the 'uuugh's. Was the she-cat okay? He couldn't remember if Violet had introduced her or not and thought it might be rude to ask now what her name was. Wow, that hit to the head must have been pretty good - normally he was a pro with names. "Oh, okay," he said, feeling slightly dissapointed. Was she leaving because of him? The thought made him unhappy so he curled his tail around his paws and tried to cheer himself up by thinking that it was probably not his fault. Thankfully there was still Violet to distract him.
His heart sank alittle as she said she hadn't seen Dapple but, for some reason, not as much as he might have thought. He was starting to realize that he probably wouldn't find her... that she had probably moved on. Even if they had loved each other, they had been young. He had told her he was find her but... had she believed him? He frowned resolutely. Of course she had. He would find her. He just now wasn't sure if she'd want to be found. It was getting a bit confusing, to be honest.
"Sure, Violet," he said, a bit distractedly. Then he felt bad. She was the first cat to be nice to him since he'd been dumped on the streets - his only 'friend' if they were even at that stage yet. The last thing he needed was to have her run off. He grinned and flicked her playfully with his tail. "Ha, I have a great sense of direction. I'll be the one stepping in when you get lost." Although he'd never been here before. But that was alright, he'd figure somethign out. Violet's next comment made his shoulders sag slightly and he fought the urge to glare.
"I hope we don't!" It took him a second to realize how loud that had been and he blushed. "Sorry, Violet - can I call you, Vi? - I just didn't really get along with him at all. He's a bit of a part to be honest." Rowan sighed. No, he definately hoped they wouldn't run into that tom. Ever again. But he owed Violet a bit more of an explanation. "I mean, he kinda laughed at me and pretended he knew Dapple...." Rowan's paw curled into the dirt, as if the dissapointment was washing over him again for the first time. "But he didn't." He sighed again.
But now, he wasn't exactly being the cheeriest cat alive. He didn't want Violet to get the impression that he some kind of depressed guy because he wasn't. "And I don't hate alot of cats," he added hurridly, and then blushed again. "Not that I hate him. I just don't like. But I don't even not like a lot of cats." He paused and frowned, wondering if that even made any sense. Violet would get the gist of it though.

Happy that Rowan seemed to like her, Violet sped along the road towards the town, once she was already quite infront of him, she called out behind her, "Race you!" She could hear his laughter as he joined her. She slowed down purposely, just to tease him, and then sped up again. As she was running, a jagged rock got stuck in her foot. "OW! Rowan? Can you help me get this rock out of my foot?" She watched as he came over to her. She smiled her thanks and continued walking. "Don't know what i would have done without you" She giggled dreamily.
The town grew bigger as they approached, and soon enough, they found themselves in it. Violet felt a churning feeling in her stomach. "I'm hungry" Violet half - whined. She was quite hungry. Maybe a dump would be good, she thought. Following the smell of the garbage.

Run, run, As fast as you can, You can't catch me...
"Race you!"
Rowan laughed to himself and dashed after Violet - or was he allowed to call her Vi? She still hadn't answered. He shrugged. Vi would do for now until she lodged a complaint. He grinned and ran faster. "I'll beat you!" he called out with another laugh. It was nice to amuse and lose himself in such fun activities. Vi seemed to bring out his inner kitten. He was startled from his thoughts by a screech of pain. He sped up and reached her side quickly. "Of course," he murmured - still gallant as always. He leaned down and secured his teeth around the stone, pulling it out quickly. He straightened up, his eyes filled with concern. "Are you okay? Do you want to go wash it out?"
But Vi - Violet - seemed over it already, giggling and thanking him. "No problem," he replied with a wink. "Anything for a pretty lady like yourself." He grinned. Was he flirting with her? Of course. Why shouldn't he? She seemed like a nice little she-cat: energetic and positive. Exactly the kind of cat he'd always wanted to meet. Exactly like...
Dapple.
The thought - the name - shocked him from his daydreams. Dapple. That was the reason he was heading to town with Violet. That was the reason he was here. To find his love. Violet was a nice she-cat but there could be nothing between them while he was still tied down. He was too much of a gentleman to do that to Dapple and too much of a gentleman to do that to Violet. It wouldn't be fair to either she-cat. Besides, he'd known Dapple his whole life. He knew exactly what she was like and knew they were meant to be together. But if he knew Dapple so well, why had he doubted her loyalty to him? Because he knew cats could change, he reminded himself. Nothing more than that.
But if his feelings did prove to develop for Violet than he wouldn't throw the three of them into some horrible, miserable and depressed scandal for others to monger gossip over. He would end things with Dapple. But maybe he was getting ahead of himself. He barely knew Violet - as wonderful as she was he needed to know her better before he sacrificed his relationship with Dapple - before he hurt Dapple so. If Dapple even still loved him. Either way, whatever option he took required one thing: Finding Dapple.
And so he continued onward, knowing his goal but not the reasons for its necessity.
I'm the GINGERBREAD MAN!
