Well, I know almost every knew member, including myself, has had trouble with the 400 word minimum for a new cat bio's personality. Robin said that she thought Lu should change it to 300, and I think so too, so I thought maybe we should run a poll.
Lu, in case your pondering the idea and want to decide for yourself but aren't sure, then you can see how many people wanna say yes or no, and maybe that might influence your decision to keep it like that or not. It was just an idea, and it might be easier for everyone. I think I could still RP with a cat that I know 100 words less about, right?
And I really do wish I had a cookie right now. I have the worst taste in my mouth! So everyone, what do you think?

Alright this seems fair. I think that 300 words would probably be a fine enough word minimum but if it was to be changed to 300 than the rule would have to be that it must be at least 300, not just close to it as the rule is now. That sound fair?
I'll wait and see what others think but if most people want it lowered I'll think about it, it would probably be fine =D =D

Sounds fine to me I think it's fair some people(like myself) can't do that much of a personality than a history. xDD; Even now Raven's personality was only 300. *just noticed lastnight* *pokes it*

I think that we should keep the 400 word minimum. Everyone on this site has been able to reach it, and I think it really helps other people get to know your character even if you already know your character yourself. I love reading the personalities and histories of the cats that my cats are currently rping with so that I get to know the cat a bit better. I think that it would be easier to write a 300 word personality, but I think that a 400 word personality is just the right amount so that it challenges you to really think and develope your character from just a picture into a living being.

I think it's a good thing that someone voted for 400 words so that it isn't so one-sided xD I can see where you're coming from, and you voted for all the right reasons, but I think that all those things could be accomplished even if it's only through 300 words. I also think that new members could possibly be intimidated by a high word count, and it might get us an extra 1 or 2 members Oh and Robin, I meant the other Robin, RPing Raven and Twix xD Soz for the confusion.

I think that if new members don't want to take the effort to type 400 words and go somewhere else because of that then they shouldn't be apart of the site. Seriously if they don't want to put in a bit of effort into their bios then what's the point?

I pushed yes when I meant to push no. o.o; And I can't retract it. Durn. Subtract a yes and put a no.
But, anyway, Apo, I think you have a good point, and if we were just interested in quantity, then lowering the post count would be fine. However, I like quality over quantity, and 400 words + is almost always quality. And, although 300 words might be easier, and yes, even I complain about it, that's only when I'm writing it. I often look back at my personalities once I'm accepted, and thank the stars I put that quirk or another down, because elsewise I would have forgotten it. So, I think it's for the better of the forum if it was kept at 400.
And 400 words isn't really that hard for personality. Get 4 basic attributes and write a hundred words about each. Or have 8 and do fifty words per trait. If you still don't have 400 words, then put an 'other' section, and make them, like, spazz at muffins or something. Give them a fear of tulips, ladders, rubber chickens. Make their automatic reaction to people as kicking their shins. Make them speak in a Spanish accent, even though their from Russia. Just make sure they have a good reason too.
Do the history AFTER you've done the personality. Then, in the history, you can put the reason for every single one of those little quirks. Maybe that little Russian with the Spanish accent had a best friend who was originally from Spain, and it started out as a joke between the two to copy each other's accents. The calico spazzes at muffins because her mother always hung out in the bakery and smelled like bread and muffins. To get it up to 400 words, write it like a story. Put an introduction, from your charries point of view (like what I did with Leaf.). Put the back story- how did the parents meet? If you still get stuck, introduce a new character, and don't be afraid to have a character lap over into the Nenbrook- you can create them as an NPC, which don't have a post count, if your happy.
(I'll stop now, this is turning into a tutorial. x3;)
Although I do find it funny that you have to write at least 800 words (personality + history) on a bio when you only need to post 100 words in character. That means that you'd have to post eight 100 word posts before you had as much as your bio. Not counting the other, not-on-word-count things. x3; LET'S RAISE THE WORDS-PER-POST COUNT. W00T.
nah, jk, jk.
I wouldn't suffer if it was raised, though.
Edit: O.O; I rambled. Sorry. I tend to do that.

Hmm that's true what Yoyo and Carlia are saying, that's why the personality was originally supposed to be higher, so that we get a really good background of the character and it forces others to really explore their characters. And yeah, Raven's was shorter but you also linked to a page with a ton of info on her condition so that made up for it lol. And I mean it's not that hard to ramble on about your character if you keep adding traits and stuff, right. Especially if you think of opposites and which one they are. Like Optimistic or Pessimistic? Outgoing or Withdrawn? Bold or Timid? Social or Anti-social? Depressed? Content? Sane or Unstable? Trusting or Suspicious? Trustworthy or Untrustworthy? Hmm maybe if we got together a list of different personality traits and opposites, do you think it would make it easier cause it would give people ideas, you know?
And that's true about the word count lol, I've been thinking about raising it cause pretty much everyone always posts over but I mean, if you're gonna post high you're gonna post high, you know? This way role-players who a bit more of beginners can still start off here and get better, right?
Hmm this is tough though cause I agree with both yes and no to lowering it. :/ Any other opinions, anyone?

I don't think it should be lowered. Firstly, I've never had any problems with writing enough words. I understand that some other people might struggle slightly more, but I think if you supposed to write a intermediate/advanced post on a regular basis, I don't think 400 words for personality would be a problem. It also helps everyone to understand the cat more, and especially for you, Lu, to find out whether the player would be able to reach the CD standard.
I'm sorry if I sound a bit mean, but with those ideas Lu posted above, it shouldn't be too difficult for anyone with the skills to actually do an intermediate roleplay. I'm considering creating a large guide with some ideas, do you think that would be allowed/would help Lu?

What about making it so the first character needs to have 400 word personality and then any chars after that can have 300? That way people need to work for their first char, but after they've proven themselves on the site, they don't /have/ to have such long personalities you know?
And you have to remember that your personalities can be as long as you want them to be xD 300 would make it easier for people that don't want to write that much, but for people that want long personalities, they can limit themselves. But I do agree that 400 words isn't THAT hard.

or maybe you can make it that if someone is having trouble reaching the 400 word limit for their personality, then they can make it 300.
Or the word limit is actually 300 but, if you make it 400 you get ____ number of points for free when you start, that way, people who can't won't feel too stressed, and still, people will try for 400, what do you think.

Hmm well I like the idea of a guide, that might be useful.
I think that would make sense having to do 400 the first time and then 300 after that, so would the points thing cause that would help some people get some points to start off with you know. Which one do you guys think?
