reflection 'open to 'indigo' It was considered the most beautiful, most peaceful event of his life. Quietly, an old golden retriever lay settled beneath the shade of a tree, the weather baring much cooler for his old age, he was at peace, calmness within his own thoughts as he watched the vibrant warm colours; reds, oranges and even the odd blue mixed together fade ever so slowly beyond the trees. This stream he lay before held life, that of never-ending flow of water as well as the fish within its depths. It truly was magnificent to admire, and not a single creature had stirred him. His eyes remained closed so softly, a smile was present along his maw as he continued to listen to the faint sounds of nature; the occasional bird that fluttered by, and the slight splash of the minnows that darted to their new life. He envied it dearly, for his old age, he was able to see and experience much in his life, but sadly, he no companion, no associate... no friend... to share those experiences with. Yet, he did not allow such a thought to bother him, he had patience, and his patience was incredible, especially considering his age.
Unlike any other older dog, Shadow did not let his age get to him, he continued his life, admiring the things around him with all chance he got. He may not be as tough, but anyone who would know Shadow enough, would know how strong he truly is inside. A true hero, a true friend. As his mind ran with new thoughts of whom he was to possibly meet on an evening like this, he re-opened his eyes to admire the stream; magnificent. Slowly, he lifted his head, only to then hoist the rest of his frail body, his intention was to sit aside the water flow, and without futher hesitation, he did just that with such gentle steps. Carefully, he settled himself a slight distance away from the calmness of the flowing water, coiling that bushy tail of his around his rump, studying the splashes of the fish overhead, and shortly, as the water calmed, his reflection was shown. He could see within his own eyes, knew within his heart that he was bound to be acompanied, for this evening was such a delightful and gentle one.
Shadow knew well enough. His intelligence, his wisdom was pure enough to conceal the fact a presence was near, yet, he held no intentions of harming them, either it be canine, or even feline. It was amazing, truly, how such a dog, big in size and appearance (mainly the fur), could have such a charming heart and mannerism. But it was the way he was, ever since his departure from the humans that so destroyed his life, he did not let it get to him, and he did not allow his mind to take in the fact that everyone was an enemy, even cats and the so humans that had thrown him aside, for he would come down to this stream every so often, to remind himself, to look upon himself, and to see the difference it made to be sociable, to be gentle and pure-hearted, for life did not ask for much in return. With a smile, Shadow lowered his nose before touching at the liquid, allowing and watching it ripple, letting his reflection become distorted, and no matter what, it always reformed to its calm state revealing the 'true' him; Shadow, a wise soft old coot, willing in anyway, to be there for a friend. No matter what.
