Very early one morning, if a feline might wake and look close enough, they would see a very small, very black cat, barely older than a kit herself, working very hard. This cat was tugging and pulling and dragging a very long and very heavy human skirt behind her. The hem of the dark blue fabric was clenched tightly in the sharp teeth of the young cat and she was determined to not let go.
This black cat had recently found herself alone in this world after a year of extreme happiness. Her humans, Miko and Toboe had been harmed to the point where they simply would not answer her anymore. And she had tried desperately to wake them. And then...Those men...Those large and loud men had come and taken Miko and Toboe away from Sky. And there was nothing Sky could do. But when she had noticed that the men had begun taking Miko's things away, Sky had a mission.
The little black cat had found a hole in a collapsed flowerbed nearby and had emptied it as best she could, having never had to do any real manual labor before in her life. But it would work for her. It would hide her from the humans and shelter her from the elements. Now all she had to do was make it feel more like home and save some of her humans' old things. The first things she had salvaged were some of Toboe's things. He was but a human kit himself and his things were small, lighter. Then came a few of Miko's things.
A baby blanket was first. Miko had rushed it to her new nest in a panic, desperately trying to get back to her haven. She had tangled the cloth in the branches above her and had made something like a ceiling or roof out of it. Next came chew toys and kitty-plushes with bells that Toboe used to play with. Sky had always liked them and had shared them with Toboe daily. Then came a few of Miko's things. Dangling, sparkling and tinkling strands that Sky hung in the branches, making her new nest sparkle inside.
And now, Sky was currently dragging the last piece of her new home to the nest she had just dug days before. The skirt, saturated in her loving and beautiful human's scent, would be the bedding of her new home. When she had finally reached the bushes, Sky squished the dark blue(and now filthy) cloth into her nest and began stomping on it to push it down into a soft mat for her bed. She curled up on it, sighing with sadness. These few things were all she had left of her past life. Her dreams were full of sadness that night as she slept curled in the warmth of her Humans' presence.

When Sky woke, the sun had traveled to the other side of the sky and darkness was once again, descending upon the town. The small black cat stretched and yawned, her pink tongue curling up as it joined in the stretch of all her muscles. Sky kneaded her new bed with her claws until she was fully awake and then she very carefully stuck her snout out of her nest, peeking around for any sign of danger.
Certain that she did not have to dodge any humans or feral animals out for her blood, Sky bounded out of her nest. She was a dark streak as she sprinted from trashcan to trashcan, hiding. Until she came upon a beautiful scent that made her stop in her place beside a toppled trashcan. She began pawing at the garbage bag. It was steaming up and warm. Some humans had just had dinner and had dumped the leftovers in the trash before taking the refuse out to the can. Sky shivered in glee. Salmon! Sky took a few large mouthfuls of the tender meat and swallowed it down before, every so gently, picking up the fish flesh in her strong jaws and carefully headed back toward her nest to save the rest for later that day.
